So I picked up this Die Hard Sega ST-V duramold (think garbage can plastic) cabinet the other day. It was missing the ST-V pcb which I picked up on ebay along with the Die Hard cartridge for cheap. It works great, monitor looks great and the nieces love the game.

The game needs a serious cleaning, but what cleaner is best on the plastic to give it that new car shine? Any recommendations based on experience?

I used to have one of these. The thing you have to be careful is some abrasive elements in some chemicals will cause it to fade to a lighter gray. (Original Goof Off, Oops, Mineral Spirits) I generally try to avoid anything with acetone as a rule of thumb. The porous properties of this type of plastic allow dirt and grime to really set in. A brush with soapy water would be helpful if rags arent cutting it to start. I've recently been using Goof Off Gel (i don't believe there is any acetone in this or nearly as much as the original Goof Off) and that has worked great for cleaning and shining almost any surface and does not seem to be too harsh. I even tested it on plexi glass and didn't get any corrosion.

Once its clean, it probably wouldn't hurt to give it a quick respray with a nice quality paint that will hold on plastic and just clean it using soapy water from there on.

I would use stuff made for cleaning plastics. Try novus 2 or 3 if you wanted something slightly abrasive (novus 3 is more abrasive). Then use novus 1 or plastic safe cleaner to final clean it.

Taski PROFI. It's the recommended cleaner for skeeball machines' cork lanes. I've also used it for cleaning the plastic side covers, white plastic score rings, painted wood, and CPOs on other machines. I've even cleaned printed stickers (lightly) without pulling up the ink with this stuff.

I use Kud Kutter to clean up games. It's available at Home Depot. It has never damaged anything. I use it on dirty cpo's as well. On my Duramold I cleaned it first with Krud Kutter wiped it down with a damp cloth..let it dry and then put regular armor all on the plastic . Came out looking like new:)
