Hi guys. I almost jumped on an arcade legends 2 m'cade, but backed off after the negative reviews here.
I love the game list on AL2, but is there a way to get/make a high quality version without any headaches?

Regards,

Kurt

Buy a pre-configured MAME cabinet.

Sadly, most sellers overcharge greatly for this, but it is convenient.
I find they miss the details -- proper resolution settings, bad LCD hacks,
volume levels vary greatly on games (annoying) and lack of video sync
tweaks, causing that jittery tear that's especially noticeable on scrolling games.
Build one yourself with an old PC running Soft 15Khz video driver, MALA frontend
and a J-Pac to interface controls and amplify video signal. Install in an
appropriate empty cabinet and shell out like $200 total (PC considered $0).

One more time, just for emphasis.

MAME is the way to go. The shitty bootleg multiboards are just running old MAME on shitty hardware anyway; put a little effort into it, get the latest and greatest, for LESS.

You can do one of the XXXX-in-1 systems. You can get way more games then in a Arcade Legends system. They are not headache free, but seem to be the best bang for your buck for a premade horizontal multicade. I have one and am happy with it.

Thanks, fellas. I'm not computer savvy at all. What would be my first step towards a horizontal, say, 200-in-1? Sorry to seem ignorant here!

There is no "Best" w/out knowing what are the games you want to play.

If you like Neo Geo games then just a 160:1 cart and board will do you fine for example...
