Just read that Stern is about to offer their top 5 pinball machines for sale on the Best Buy website and will start putting them in stores in the near future.

I think this is great for pinball, it will get it out to the mainstream market out there that dont even know it still exists, wish this was done alot sooner. I just hope they can market it properly and sell it at a realistic price point.

Time to request that credit line increase. For fucking real.

I love my Best Buy card. And I know that's a stupid thing to say, but there's been an absolute TON of things that I've bought on it and either paid no interest for 3 years or 3 months and paid them off. If my credit line was that high, and I wasn't trying to pay off my other cards, and the right pin came along...would I sign up for some 3 years no interest on a NIB pinball? HELL TO THE YES I WOULD! And **MY WIFE WOULD LET ME**. :|

Some important things, like the Canon T1i DSLR that we bought right before my son was born, there was no way I could've afforded a 900$ camera without that card....and that thing made that the best day ever. I've got probably a good 30 minutes of HD video from the first hour or so after he was born (Nurses had him behind a glass wall...what else was I going to do?), and pictures that would've never happened because we had no good digital camera...

Some not-so-important things, like my 55" plasma, which replaced a very early 1st gen LCD 720P HDTV that kept blowing 200$ bulbs...second replacement blew and that was the last straw with that TV...

Frax, I agree that the Best Buy Card is a good thing to have, provided you use it within reason and pay it off before the interest gets you.I try not to have more than one Credit Card, I prefer to pay cash if possible, but will use a card for the big stuff which I rarely get. I just can't see charging something like this on my card, ouch.. I was looking into a DSLR Camera, what do you think of it? I was wanting to get a good beginner one to start with, anything is a step up from those point and shoot digital ones. I am exited to see what this can do for the future of pinball, more exposure is always a good thing, only time will tell.

Basically and of the 900-ish dollar range cameras are pretty much in the same class. My personal preference will always be towards Canon because that's what I grew up with, and I know that their lenses will almost always go from body to body when you upgrade.

They're fantastic. We just bought a new lens for it, greatly greatly increases the depth of field effect on what you're NOT focused on. It's interesting to play around with, but frankly, as a noob, I'm completely uncomfortable using it because of how close you have to get with it! http://amzn.to/n18yJ1 It's really hard for me to take away that inclination to twist the lens body and zoom in, but there's some beautiful pictures.

etc etc etc...... They're now two generations down the road from mine, the T3i is the current one I think. Just be aware that when you shoot video on these, they're NOT good at very fast action. They capture video by scanning the sensor, not a full frame at a time like a digital video sensor would. Leads to tearing artifacts when there's fast horizontal motion.

I'm uploading an example now if you're curious..I'll come edit it back in once it gets done.

There.

That's on a 2 year old DSLR. Surely they've probably cleaned it up a bit and youtube's own compression algo didn't do any favors there either.

this actually could be a good thing.... kinda reminds me of when sears sold stern pins online.

maybe best buy will have a option for PICK UP at your local bb location?? that would def be a bonus for making sure that your pinball doesnt get damaged in the whole shipping process.

with all the "daily deals" these days maybe we could get lucky with some online CODES that could possibly be applied to the purchase of a nice minty stern pin :)

Dont worry, you arent missing much with not playing the newest Stern titles, seems the last few years they have gone downhill on quality. I can't justify spending $5K or more on what Stern is currently putting out, just feels cheaply made for me. I would rather buy a quality older Williams/Bally one, the quality of those is still fantastic as old as they are and you can get two good ones for the price of one new Stern. I have the same issue in Dallas, If I want to play any of the classic pins, I have to drive to Austin three hours from me.

What part of Dallas are you located? Nickelrama in Garland has like 5 Stern pins. I know Frax and myself go there to play. Still haven't beaten his Tron high score...

I went to Nickelrama just last saturday. I only play the LOTR machine as I really dont like the rest of thier lineup, some kid put two free games in the Tron pinball and it sat there for the entire time I was there and no one played it. I played Tron one time when it first came out and was not impressed, it is just a boring machine.I am just not a fan of what Stern is putting out right now, lacking in quality and lackluster titles. The only Stern I would buy now is the LOTR. I am not aware of anywhere in Dallas where I can play Non Stern pins, so I dont mind the occasional travel to Pinballz Arcade in Austin, that is pretty much Pinball Heaven.

I personally hate how Stern prostitutes out so many stupid licenses for their titles. I'm not like a pinball expert or anything, but I give the nod to the older stuff over this fruity garbage they put out now.

whatever floats people's boats I guess.

I agree, what is coming out now from Stern is pretty much crap I think. With JJP coming into the mix, maybe that will force Stern to actually put some effort into the design, theme and quality of their future pins since now they have some competition.

yeah, not just take a TV show name and slap it on a pin. I hate them so hard. curse you Pinball 2000 for being a miserable failure.

This is one of my biggest problems with buying a new pin, no where to test drive one in my area.

I have a store in Kansas City and while they dont have as many pins as us they always have the newest Stern title in stock.
