Ok, I'm curious on your thoughts as to what is the best looking art on a video game regardless of it's popularity, genre, era and especially GAMEPLAY. Please try to separate any bias you may have.

what comes to my mind are.

GI Joe (yes the Konami 4P one)

Oh great...now I have another game I want, that Golden Axe. Thanks, I hate you now! :p

I think all the 4P Konami and Sega games tend to have pretty good artwork.

I don't know about ALL of the Konami games. I think only the two we've mentioned and possibly The Simpsons. Sunset Riders, Vendetta and TMNT were horrible. The staged model shoots were so bad, but one could argue that was just the style back then.

tempest for sure. Side art is awesome. Devil zone , cosmic avenger, cosmic alien, cheeky mouse as well as a few other games made by Universal from that era. Swimmer actually has great art. Dragon's lair II has really cool art. Kangaroo and arabian are best know for their art being better than the game play so I guess people agree the art is pretty good. i think so.

Sega Spiderman sucked... with that source material and the loads of awesome marvel artists then... they could have litterally pulled together something way more awesome than what they did... Xmen was just re-positioned available art at the time and it looked great.. (pre-photoshop)

I kinda liked Sunset Riders. The restored cabs on here were actually kinda cool. Konami USA (chicago) just didn't know how to go about getting artists to match the japanese art at the time. They really should have just commisioned good comic book artists to match with the game art. Capcom couldn't even do it right back then. Maybe in the heyday of the comic artists, the commisioned art rate was just too high. I've heard of thousands for full art like what would be required. I'm sure that the US arcade divisions just went the easier way out.

I'm pretty sure that GA:RODA looks good because they were able to get japanese artists to do it.

Tell me about it. Look at the US flyer for SFII:WW. Why replace the cool original art with some crappy photo of some white guy dressed as Ryu?

It's amazingly hard to find good pics of this game online. I have some of my own stashed around here somewhere. I'll try to dig them up and insert them later if I find time.

Universal cabs have really cool inner art but are some of the worst games ever made.

Agreed on Tron, Star Wars, Food Fight, Burger Time, Xmen, G.A. 2 and Gorf. So many with good art. A few others....

-Satan's Hollow
-Wizard of Wor
-LOTs of the Konami games(I.E. Rush N' Attack, Super C, etc....)
-Mortal Kombat series
-Galaxian
-DOT

Agreed...... The *Cosmic* series comes to mind...

Some of the Atari B&W games had cool 70's looking sideart!

Some notables: Arabian, Ghouls n Ghosts, Return of the jedi, Star Wars...

I think one of my favorites is Vanguard......
