You walk into an arcade, gameroom, whateva. What music just hits that magical spot with you and makes you feel like you've hit arcade heaven? Title screen music, certain levels or stages, character select screens? What lights you up? Try to think of the top three arcade music scores ever!

I'd want to hear:

1. Atari Star Wars gameplay(especially when you enter the towers area)
2. Street Fighter 2, "Balrog's stage"
3. Outrun, "Magical Sound Shower"

The final stage music for Double Dragon I always thought was catchy, or the Bubble Bobble music.

Bubble bobble is good for sure, but man after 50 levels or so, you're ready to rip your hair out. ;)

Good call on the Double Dragon. I'm a big fan of the title screen score.

Heh, I never last that long, I think I've only gotten to level 30 (without continuing.)

Star Wars (all of it)
Gauntlet (attract music - it maybe Guantlet II that I'm thinking of)
Mat Mania (background music)

There are a lot of "also ran" titles but these 3 are obvious for me.

oh man, guantlet is rad! i remember walking into my local ymca as a kid and the first thing i'd hear was the gauntlet 2 in the rec room. good call.

I think for early 80's games, Mappy has the best music!

As for the late 80's and 90's, I mean..there is SO MUCH good game music.

Konami games: Mikie, Contra, Top Gunner, Gradius, TMNT, etc
Sega gamest: Outrun, Super Hang On, Space Harrier, etc
Capcom games: SF2, most of the Vs. fighters, etc

I think Atari had the best music: Paperboy, 720, Marble Madness, Xybots etc...

2 other notables for me are Dragon Spirit/Saber, You gotta check this out!

Sinistar opening guitar riff
Reactor attract mode
Crazy Climber 1st building completion song
Space Ace attract music
Moon Patrol (YES JOW!)
Revenge from Mars pin2k music (pretty much everything)
Marble Madness (most cues)

Phoenix
Moon Patrol
Mappy
and it doesn't seem like a real arcade until I hear the start music for MsPac... not sure why, maybe I just identify that sound the most with arcades of my youth...
