Best ARCADE FIGHTING GAME in your opinion

I was 13 when Mortal Kombat II came out - pretty much the target demographic. I played the shit out of it at the arcade and even more when it hit the SNES.

Is it the best fighting game of all time? Probably not. Is it my favorite? Absolutely.

That period of time when MKII and DK Country were released close-ish on SNES was unreal. I was the same age, and did the same.

SFII CE for me. Hyper just felt a bit too fast.

SamSho II was great as well

I think this could spur a secondary list. Best fighting game where only one person is playing, not human head to head.

In that case, MKII sucks!

For sure. On MK I could beat the computer with any of the characters. On MK II the CPU got really cheap really fast.

You can nearly guess the specific age bracket of respondents based on game chosen.
Pleasantly surprised to see how many mentions Karate Champ has gotten, as I concur.

....I could put Kung Fu Master, Yie Ar Kung Fu... Joust might be a stretch to call it a fighter but it's awesome so I'll never suggest to don't include it in anything lol.

Not really what I would call a fighter, more a side scrolling/platforming Karate/Kung Fu Game, but yes love that one too.....making this difficult lol.
I was going to say "Yie Ar Kung Fu", but I didn't know if it counted. I know it's the only fighting game I go back to.

Easy way to scope out the age range of this forum lol

I'm lucky to get past round 3. I know there's ways to cheese the AI but it's not nearly as fun.
With MK, I'd play against the PC if there was no one to fight head-to-head.

With MK II, the PC was so unfun, that if there wasn't someone to play head-to-head I'd just walk on by.

I thought all FIGHTING games suck. So there can be no BEST. 🤪

Be a LOVER not a FIGHTER. I love VECTORS. LOL

I played Tekken 3 one time relatively recently and thought it sucked. I would love to know if people share my thoughts and if there is anything good about the Tekken series.
I get that. I think with most fighting games you either get the playstyle or you don't. I was a HUGE VF fan, but that wasn't nearly as popular as Tekken. I rejected the Tekken system as I was a Sega fan. It wasn't until a friend/Tekken fan taught me the game when I got it.

I feel like most players are super focused on learning the special moves that they don't understand the basics, like blocking or how to get up from being knocked down. I can't begin to tell you how badly I can own most Tekken players who don't understand those 2 concepts in the game.

But I digress; TLDR: certain styles of games appeal to different people. I swing SF2 and my vote is probably Hyper-Fighting. The game is still tournement played and I feel like most fighting games became too complicated for anyone but hard-core players to enjoy. I'm looking at you, Alpha3.
