Best ARCADE FIGHTING GAME in your opinion

played the hell outta fighting games BITD, but i could never wrap my head around the mid-90s 3D-fighter hype. it always felt like devs/publishers were trying to be cutting edge and force a trend. the mechanics/control of those 3D fighter games never felt quite right 🫤

2D fighters 4ever.

3D fighters didn't help either

SFII and SFII CE. Controls were far more fluid for me than the MK series, and I never could get into them.
I still play SF Alpha 3 periodically.

Yup. My meme was 100% sarcastic. MK4 was such a massive letdown when it came out. It's like they added 3D simply for the sake of it. Everything about that game was terrible. It hardly even feels like a MK game.

It's a shame that was their last MK game to see an arcade release.

VF brought a new concept to the table like Dragon's Lair did. That alone puts it on the board, imo. But as we all know, game producers often put $$$ first, not always "who will love the gameplay?"

Reactions: Fly
Joust and Wizard of Wor.
Not knocking the love of those games, which I share...but if we're going by THAT liberal of a definition I'd have to have something for each age/era....I could put Kung Fu Master, Yie Ar Kung Fu... Joust might be a stretch to call it a fighter but it's awesome so I'll never suggest to don't include it in anything lol.
For me personally... Kung Fu Master.

Not really what I would call a fighter, more a side scrolling/platforming Karate/Kung Fu Game, but yes love that one too.....making this difficult lol.

Yeah, they felt a little clunky AND aesthetically off.

I spent a lot of quarters on SF II, MK, MK II, KI, World Heroes, and Samurai Shodown (can't remember if it was 1, 2, or both).

During the arcade days I was best at the first MK, and we'd drive all over to challenge people at other arcades. So it may not be the best competitively, but it's the one I have the fondest memories of playing on location.

The Neo Geo ones were just because they were at the Plaid Pantry near where we'd hang out.

The Great Swordsman. Though it's main downfall is that it's only you against the computer. If there were head to head, this would be the greatest game in history.

I played Tekken 3 one time relatively recently and thought it sucked. I would love to know if people share my thoughts and if there is anything good about the Tekken series.

I've never heard of or seen this game before.
