I'm surprised this thread didn't exist already. Anyway, what games are gems on your eyes and which ones are absolute turds.

Best game I've ever played (in my opinion) - Mega Man II (NES)

I can't think of a game that was the absolute worst but these were pretty bad.

(All NES games)

Seicross
Mag Max
Hydlide
Arkista's Ring
M.U.S.C.L.E.

This is tough because there are so many good games but even more bad games on multiple consoles. Haha. Just look at some of the games AVGN has reviewed. Some of those have got to be the worst (Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, Little Red Hood, etc.). Though, some are the best like SMB3 and the Zelda series (minus CD-i).

That's true. But many that he reviewed I never played. I'm just talking about the ones I've played personally. Maybe break it down by worst game for that particular console. Surely there's one or two games that you played that made you say "what the hell is this BS?!" Pac-Man for the 2600 also comes to mind for me.

Oh come on, there are way worse 2600 games than Pac-Man. :)

Here's some for you, I'll just do a few and from different consoles:

Best
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Gunstar Heroes
007 Goldeneye (N64)

Worst
Back to the Future (or anything by LJN for that matter)
Krusty's Funhouse
Shaq Fu
Superman 64

I'd have to think hard about best/worst (there's been a recent thread that included best opinions), but here's a few I remember pissing me off to no end as a kid, but never wanting to give up.

2600:
Missile Command (I'd get so pissed when I ran out of ammo - ha)

NES:
Skate or Die (I never had the manual so I had no idea how to do some shit and always ended up wiping out)
Rygar (Fuck the endless maze of screens)

More recently, Super Meat boy (PC/360) is the most reminiscent of that, but I fucking love that game and can't get enough. That game really feels like an old school arcade/NES game that you end up playing the same thing over and over until you get it right. VVVVVV is a lot like that as well. Both are highly recommended if you like that kind of torture :)

I remember playing Skate or Die for the first time on a ski trip in Colorado. We had no manual either. We just mashed buttons until we did a trick and then tried to remember what we did. Ah sweet button mashing.

Ski or Die is pretty bad too. I don't know what they were thinking when they made that one.

I'll just throw up a few that I owned on my fave consoles:

Atari Best
H.E.R.O.
Pitfall
Haunted House

There are a ton of worst for Atari, I'll just post what I actually owned that disappointed.
Ghostbusters - What a let down
ET - Never learned how to play it - freebie from uncle.

NES Best

Double Dragon 2
Mega Man 3 - Never owned 2 - though that comes close.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!

Worst:
T&C Surf Designs
Robocop
Back to The Future

Super Nintendo Best
Mario All-Stars+Super Mario World (It covers all of Mario)
A Link to the Past
Super Punch-Out

Worst:
Home Alone 2 - Still feel horrible that my mother paid money for this thing.
Mario is Missing - First game I truly bought with my own money - I had mowed a lot of lawns, wanted to buy a game - whatya know - you picked a shitty educational game. Cover the package did not look nearly as boring as the game was.

I'm gonna stop there - this list could go for ages, every category could keep going. lol

Obviously you guys never played Data East's NES version of "tag-team wrestling"
Worst game in the history of video gaming!! How did it go........You grabbed your apponent and then used the select or "B" button to select which move you wanted to use on him. Your move selection always came up in big Japanese words so unless you spoke fluent Japanese the move you selected would be a surprise to you and your apponent. I am not kidding about "selecting" your move. Similar to any madden football game. You had a wide range of moves to select from. It was rediculious. Grab apponent and run through a list of moves which you could take several minutes choosing, select your move, then it executed your move!!

The most intriging game ever for me would be arcade Punch-Out!! At the time......it was the first of it's kind. Using dual monitors at the same time to play a game. Stone age compared to now but back then man......

Poor old Mega Man. I am referring to the original. I recall Nintendo Power doing an article on the original Mega Man. It did not sell many copies cause the front case art work. Buyers stayed away!! WeA should have known better. Capcom produced the best NES tittles.Yet Mega Man 2 sold record copies!! Guess the old saying goes...."Never judge a book by its cover"

I still have a copy of Megaman, didn't have it as a kid, bought it as a teen at Funcoland. You have to admit that cover was gaybob 5000 - you'd think George Michael would come out of that box and try to stick a finger in your butt. lol

Here's a totally unrelated factoid for you guys - I just kicked myself in the nuts tonight when I thought of it. I bought 2 of the top loader NES consoles from Kay-Bee Toys on clearence in middle school for $30 a piece - Both are long gone, one I actually gave to my cousin - I remember how they had the big $30 sale tag hanging on the stack - I should have bought every one of those bastards and threw them in the closet. lol A case pack of top-loaders would be worth a fortune.

BEST: Hands down - Yars' Revenge. Even to this day, a tremendous "twitch" game once you get far enough into it.

WORST: 2600 Defender. What an abomination of one of my 3 favorite coin-ops of all time. Just horrible. What even makes it worse is to see what they did not much later with "Stargate" - a very, very good 2600 port.

Worst game in the history of video gaming!!

I've played it on an emulator and it does completely suck ass,but I never played it back in the day so I didn't list it.

I think Stevie Wonder drew the box art for Mega Man 1. I kind of like the cover art though. It's one of those "it's so bad it's good" kind of things. Like seeing a really awesome mullet. :D

And what I wish I had were cases of popular sealed NES and SNES games. Now those are worth a fortune! Mega Man 1 sealed would easily fetch a grand.

Best for me: NES - Legend of Zelda. My buddies and I spent weeks upon weeks playing this. Great times- great game.

Worst I can think of: Atari 2600 - E.T.

Ghostbusters - What a let down

I remember shortly after I got a 2600, my mom took me to Toys R Us to pick out a game and Ghostbusters was what I picked out. I think I even used christmas/birthday money I'd saved up to buy it. I don't recall how old I was, but I was under 10, I know that much.

Man, what a fucking let down. My first buyer's remorse. Pretty sure it was about $50 or so - does that sound right for when those were still sold in stores?

Best NES:
Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Zelda, MT Punch Out, Shadowgate

Worst NES:
Dragons Lair

Best SNES:
Super Mario RPG, Tetris Attack, Tecmo SuperBowl III

Worst SNES:
Mortal Kombat

Worst SNES:
Mortal Kombat
This is arguable. Most disappointing, maybe, but the game was playable at least. It wouldn't have been as much of a let down had it not been for the censors.
