Whats the best 4 way joystick to use for a 48 in 1? Havent picked one out yet and was just wondering what to look for and what to watch out for in deciding.

Try one of those stubby 4-way balltop joysticks you can get from Arcadeshop or Ebay, they are usually called reunion joysticks because they are used in the MsPacman/Galaga reunion cabinets.

That is what I usually install in a Multicade if the CP is metal. If the CP is wood, then I use a HAPP Super in 4-way mode. Both of these joysticks are good for 4-way games, but they do allow diagonals if you hit them right for 8-way games.

I have tried out a few sticks on Multicades. Stubby 4-way balltop similar to the Reunion stick but with a longer shaft. Also tried a Happ Super with a GroovyGameGear 4-way restrictor plate. Also tried a Happ Ultimate with a 4-way actuator.

Still, the stubby short reunion seems to perform best.

Leaf switch joysticks are prefered among hardcore old-school gamers. If you are making a multicade for yourself, find a Pacman or Ms Pacman joystick and rehabilitate it. Even a Wico leaf switch joystick will feel better than any microswitch joystick.

Now if you are cranking out Multicades for civilians (non-hardcore gamers), then go with the reuninon sticks. Easy to source, durable and they work good enough for the public...

not finding the reunion sticks yet. Ill keep digging.

I am pretty sure those sticks from arcadeshop are the reunion sticks. They are what I use on my Multicades.

yeah if you are going to just go 4 way, and disregard the games that need 8 way movement (my friend did this) go 4 way leaf.

I have found that the wico microswitch joysticks (8way) are the best for play the 4 way and 8 way games. Not perfect, but pretty good.

But if you like playing scramble, super cobra, and others, they blow with 4 way only.

Yeah trying to find a wico leaf now just not having luck. Guess Ill have to get one from arcadeshop I suppose.

I've got one of those reunion joysticks and I agree. While they're decent sticks that the general public would probably not even notice, nothing beats a finely-tuned Midway 4-way leaf stick.
