I need some opinions from the community on a 4-player control panel. I'm still in the planning stages of my 2-in-1 D&D TOD and SOM cabinet. Right now, I am approaching the project as completely custom. I don't really want to put the games in a 4 player Konami, Big Blue, etc. So my question is this: what is your favorite 4-player CP? In terms of looks, and playability? I have a 4 player on my MAME that is very similar in shape to this one:

I don't want a surfboard, but it needs to be able to handle all 4 players without their shoulders getting chaffed. I like the looks of this one (shape):

Time to weigh in. Anything out there impress you / annoy you with the 4 player games and their panel set-ups? I'd like to see some examples of what you like / don't like.

Yeah, I was on page 10 of the control panel database thread when I decided to start this one. I'm hoping someone over here can show me the perfect 4-player template to use on my project.

Square like the original?

Or square like Gauntlet?

Hey Matt,

A few things.

Don't let the KLOV pics fool you, I've looked into it and I'm almost positive that cab is NOT an "original" even though it's featured on the KLOV info page.

Everything I've gathered points to this game being sold as a kit game meant for a Big Blue System 2 Cab. Problem is that cab "stock" is only 2 player.

Take a close look at this flyer for Tower of Doom:

This flyer is the ONLY "official" pic I've been able to find of either D&D game. That cab in the flyer is a photoshopped SFII:WW cab. Note the CP has the world map on it, and lack of 4 player controls

Also, you can see from the flyer D&D was orderable from Capcom this way.

One day, I hope to do what you're doing, but using this cab. If you are going for something custom...my vote would be something similar to this, but with a tasteful 4 player mod/artwork for the control panel.

I don't know why people would consider gauntlet a good 4 player game cabinet. I would never play in any position on than the center 2.

I would say an nba, nfl, tmnt, simpsons size panel is good enough. You should have rooms for SFII config in the middle and 4 buttons for players 3 and 4. You probably would still have room for some oddball controls too.

If you want some other weird setup, then build a 2nd top you can swap out. Personally, I would want to build a 2 player top too. That way you can ditch the wasted space when you don't need it.

Zoggynog: Yeah, I think you're right. Since this build is from scratch, I think I want to start from zero. If I come across a Big Blue for cheap I would entertain the idea of building off of that platform, I just haven't seen any in my area.

mrbill2084: Since this is going to be a dedicated cab for only those two games, I only need a dedicated 4-player control panel.

Go back to the database and check out post #666. Perfect 4 player panel(s). ;)

Nephasth : Those look great man! PM me or send me a thread link on how you set up the led buttons to illuminate with the game controls. If I was going to run a dual monitor setup, yours would be the way to go. Very Clean.
