Best 2-player Jamma games...

I mean't to say Horizontal.

How hard is it to add a button?

How much would adding a button detract from the value of the Ninja Gaiden cab?

The complexity of adding a button is low to moderate (moderate if the convertor chopped the button 3 wiring off the jamma harness, low otherwise).

I don't think adding a button would change the value of a Ninja Gaiden machine in any way.

Is there a tutorial anywhere that would show me how to do this?
Where/What buttons should I buy?

Read up about JAMMA wiring (Google is your friend).

Get your buttons from Bob Roberts.

These are the buttons you want.

Post a picture of your control panel top and underside so I can see the controls, depending on what is in it I might want to recommend replacing all the buttons and perhaps the sticks too.

If your wiring is all messed up then it isn't that expensive to rewire your whole machine, and in doing so you will basically learn all about arcade wiring.

Ninja Gaiden should already have 3 buttons. Two on the CP (jump, attack), one on top of the joystick (grab)

Yes it would, so you are already all set there. You STILL might want to duplicate the wiring for that 3rd button on the panel though as I could see some titles as possibly being hard to play with button 3 on top of the stick.

And if you got a Neo Geo motherboard that would open up a lot of possibilities, as few games other than the Streetfighter type ones actually use all 4 Neo Geo buttons (my Neo Geo still only has 3 buttons on it).

Would the joystick button count/work as a third button on games that call for 3 (like battletoads, I think)?

So do you mean daisy chain a third button to the joystick button and install it on the panel like the 2 buttons I have now?

Would a neo geo board hook up to my jamma cab or would I have to rewire? Where can I get a motherboard?

So many questions... I do love learning!

A one slot neo geo board will plug right into your harness and yes I do mean daisy chain joystick button wiring to a 3rd panel button.

Someone here would probably have a one slot Neo Geo motherboard to sell you. $80 to $100 seems to be the general price range on them.

Contra is Vertical. I'm working with Horizontal. I would love Contra if I could.

Only in a virtual world is Contra a horizontal game :)

Yes, Magic Sword would work, and yes that Neo Geo motherboard would allow you to buy cartridges like metal slug.

The nes version of Contra is better than the arcade version anyway which is pretty short and was made vertically to try to sell more conversions even though the style of gameplay it had would have been better on a horizontal monitor.

Final Fight looks fun!

Magic Sword uses Capcom CPS JAMMA. Would that work with my regular JAMMA?

But if it's Vs. Contra it'll be horizontal, but not JAMMA. :) Captain Obvious to the rescue!

And there are so many other things wrong with that picture...like, why is the artwork so friggin' low on the cab?!

BTW, Tetris - only uses one button per player and is a great 2P game.
