Berzerk Textured paint

This has provided a problem to me as well. I have decided to focus on the interior and get the game working before I even attempt to deal with this monster.

Well I got mine working, cleaned out, and now have 2 coats of oil-based semi-gloss black on. I put sand texture in the first coat, but left the second coat straight paint. How the hell do you sand this thing and not ruin the texture? I wanna stencil, but I'd like to scuff the surface. I also see a few spots where the sand texture I added got a bit dense.

Was the side art so bad that you needed to paint over it? I thought it looked pretty good in the picture you provided when you got it.

The bottom had several 2+ inch swaths of plywood missing. There was also a bottom corner that was shredded and had to be glued and bondoed. In order to get the sides looking uniform, I knew I'd have to repaint the whole thing. Sand texture comes in a bag and is sold at most paint stores.

The one I just got has some issues on the bottom but I am going to try and fix them and try to get the paint to blend into the original paint. It will probably look so-so but it will look a lot better than it does now.

I had already purchased the stencils, so there was no turning back.

to recreate that texture I always took some plaster of paris and a paint roller and rollered it on.

That's a good idea too, and would have worked for my Lost Tomb cab, which had a more knock-down texture, but this time the texture seemed more like sand grains. You could see white paint on the tips of them all where the topcoat had worn off.

is there a spray that has a sand texture of sorts. I have an old 720 cabinet that was turned into a Neo Geo Cab. It has a grey textured paint on it through out, once I took it apart, I saw over spray with the texture in a lot of places.

OK, I think I got it. I took a dull paint scraper and essentially scraped/rubbed the whole cabinet down, in essence 'knocking down' the sand texture. Now it looks more uniform and I was able to add a 3rd coat of black as the surface was scuffed. Turned out pretty swell:

Here was the cab before, you can see the frayed plywood on the bottom. Pretty much the same on both sides:

The registration of the stenciled logo was pretty half-assed too. One side was nearly 4 inches from the top, the other was 2.5 inches from the top. The angle of the logo was different too. Left side logo was parallel to the top, right side was about 10-15 degrees different. I think I am gonna split the diff and start the top logo 3.25 inches from the top and make them both parallel with the top edge.

I have always wondered if the rockerguard (non-rubberized) spray would work for this..
