Do they exist? I scanned Bob's site and didn't see anything, though admittedly I may have missed it. Otherwise, is sticking a switcher in a Berzerk the way to go?

I've got ATX adapters for the stern supplies...

Stern's supply is almost as bad as Taito's -- unless you're a real stickler for originality, i wouldn't bother rebuilding it...

The cab, and a description of the pickup and condition.

I love game pickup stories.

Well, just get into your comfy clothes and hop up on old Uncle Phetty's lap. I promise to spin you a few yarns whilst you're up there, my lad.

Phet if the stern PS is anything as bad as the taito supplys like Mark says, upgrade to a switcher! I dont have any experience with stern supplys but I did fix the one in my Qix and it gave me a run for my money. I eventually got it fixed and its been reliable since but man that was a pain.

About Berzerk, when I have a separate ZPU I can power it up and if I get three flashes it's OK right ? I mean, than the problems are on the other boards or connections right ?

Well 3 flashes means it's mostly OK, but you could still have problems with the chips that interface the CPU bus and the video/sound address/data buses.

OK thanks Mark. I will try to replace the ribbon cables first, just like Alan173 did, even if it's just to rule out bad connections. It's cheap enough to pick up a SCSI cable.

About the power supply, I haven't looked at the schematics yet, but it looks like your average 78xx, 79xx supply. What's the weak spot ? I've got an AT power supply (not ATX) here, but I can cut up the wires and connect it to the test points for just testing and ruling out the supply as a problem source.

You can't use SCSIs for all of them...

The extra plastic on the edges of the connectors won't fit in the .2" between the pins on adjacent connectors. You can replace half of them that way though... since the connectors are only 23 pins, you have to be careful with the alignment.

If you seen any corrosion on the headers, replace them, and save yourself a lot of trouble in the future.

I spaced the headers out an extra .2" or so on my ZPUs so crimped cables would work better, but that doesn't help the BSC side... I thought about just folding that board into the ZZPU to save people trouble, but then the existing cables wouldn't have been long enough to reach to the VFB.

Thanks Mark good info. I based the SCSI info on Alan176's site. It looks like the connectors he used are smaller than the one's I just bought, but he did mention that they need to be sanded to make them fit.

About the corrosion, yeah I too bought some pin-strips today for that as on some boards (luckily not all) they look very bad indeed (just like the ribbon connectors on those). The acid did a lot of damage on that one.

Done some work on one of the boards and I'll put my findings in another thread, don't want to further hi-jack this one.
