I picked up a Berzerk a few weeks back, finally got into the machine. No visible acid damage on any of the boards, but when I power the game up, I get a high pitched squeal and then a rug pattern appears on the screen. The LED is lit, but flickers at first. Power supply rebuild? Thanks.

High pitched squeal is definitely a sign of a PS issue Phet!

The high pitched squeal is the first beep...

The LED is supposed to flash out the tests as they run... if you disconnect all the other boards and run the ZPU alone, you should get 3 flashes... looks like you're not getting that far...

The 'rug' is just the random crap in the RAM on the BSC and VFB when it boots up... the ZPU doesn't rest the RAM on those boards until after it tests itself.

No acid damage...WOW! Nice...

Just like the other posts pointed out...not getting past the ZPU board. Just to make sure you don't have a cracked solder joint off your power board check to make sure you have +5.0vdc on the lower left board. Wiggle the connection to the ZPU. If the red light stays on and +5 is solid...good sign. For a quick check...flip in a new Z80. Then let us know how many beeps/flashes you get...

Now before I read any posts I did some testing at the TP's near the bookkeeping reset button. On the left TP, I was getting 4.96v, on the right TP, I was getting 5.01. It was dark and late, so I am not sure which TP's I was testing. I just wanted to get an idea if the 5V was there, and it seemed to be. I'll check tonight on the ZPU.
