I recently picked up this Berzerk project. The cabinet is in pretty solid shape and will likely get repainted. The ZPU has corrosion, the CPO looks like crap (got a repro), the joystick is shot, and it will get a thorough restoration.

There is some minor chipping along the bottom edges, due to the lack of levelers and way it sat on skids. The cabinet sides have dados cut into them, and 3/4" piece of wood formed a base/front and base/back. The back one was long gone. A skid across that supported the cabinet.

You can see the front one, falling apart:

Here, I've removed the useless/broken pieces. Just leaves the cabinet without the base front and back. See notches:

I cut down and squared some scrap 2x4 pieces, shaped to fit into the dado and snug between the cabinet sides. These were later glued up into a larger piece:

I aligned the leg levelers with the casters on the back edge of the cabinet. I then predrilled the holes on the drill press. I applied Titebond glue to the cabinet and the new pieces, and they slid in very snugly:

I'm usually against any cabinet modification that can be seen, but aside from the added leg levelers, the wood will look the same from the front and back of the machine, unless you flip it over like this.

I consider this a structural improvement, and it will help preserve the cabinet for the future. I used the large leg leveler plates from Bob R. Not cheap, but they're solid as a rock.
