Does anyone have a cheap source for the optics on a Berzerk bat stick pcb (PN: opb707). Shipping from Mauser or Digikey is outrageous for a small order. I've restored my bat stick and I can't get it to go right. I've replaced the capacitor and the LM339 chip. The resistors R4 & R5 meter out and I've reflowed the harness header pins and optic pins on the RH movement optic; so the optic itself must be bad. If anyone has any advice or a cheap source for the opb707 please let me know.

They are goofy reflective jobs IIRC. Not a slot interrupter like the Gorf stick used. Not a good approach. Seems to me they got dirty easy and thats what prompted the Wico retrofit.

Thanks Troy, but it doesn't look like jameco has them. I know Mauser & Digikey both have them but there is a revision A, B, & C. Any idea if the rev matters?

Hmmmm, maybe it was Mouser? Let me look at the packaging if I still have it and tell you what I got. Mine worked for sure..

What I learned is that the distance of the reflective "disc" is very important. I had to adjust it a bit on mine to get reliable diagonals. If its too far it won't work right, but also if it's too close. There's a nice graph explaining that in the datasheet of the opb707.

Of course I also thoroughly cleaned it, but the disc itself can't get dirty from stuff falling on it because it's "upside down" in the joystick.

I've cleaned and polished everything to a mirror finish. I cleaned the optic with water. What did you use? The other three work so I'm not sure how I could adjust the distance without affecting the other three. Its got all the stock spacers so any adjustments would be trial and error. What's the distance between your optic and the disc?

Pfooohh, would have to check that. But you are right, it can hardly be the distance for one of the directions up, down, left, right. Those worked fine at mine too but I had problems with the diagonals.

However I've seen sticks assembled incorrectly and thus not working...if its like the drawing in the manual it should work. Of course you can also try to activate the suspect sensors with a small mirror. If it still doesn't work, the opto is dead.

you can also use any regular digital camera to see if the opto's emit any light at all.

That's a good idea. Will a digital camera pick up IR? Do you need to check it in the dark

Not really. I haven't done it on the Bezerk stick (as mine worked OK) but I did use it on pinball opto's and it works great. At least you will know if the LED is emitting light. Doesn't say anything about the receiver of course.

Success!!! I ordered some replacement optics from Digikey and replaced my right movement opto. I can now move in all 4 directions. One of the previous threads on this forum is correct the diagonals don't work very well. I'll need to spend some time fine tuning this thing to find the sweet spot where they all just work.
