Berzerk back-up battery ideas

I'm not Mark... but I can tell you that a 1N5817 will work fine. 1N5818 and 1N5819 are fine too (they have higher max reverse voltages).

I usually use 5817s since they're easy to find, but since they're 1A diodes they look pretty dumb... I found some in smaller packages that I used for a while, but I can't remember the P/N offhand.
 
I was thinking: I assume that the current from the battery is extremely low. So, why would I need the schottky ? The voltage drop is so that it will stay away from the minimum 2 Volts by almost 1 Volt with a regular diode.
I mean, it's not like a resistor that "drains" the battery....right ?

The only time this will come into account is when the battery reaches it's end of life where the voltage will start dropping. But that's in about 10 years....

I already ordered the schottky's and will use them but I'm just interested.
