this title)
Stern Trident 250 (poor BG)
Bowling Queen 125 (poor BG and PF)
Captain Fantastic (home model) 200 (nice PF)
Mata Hari 325 (rough BG, played well)

Thanks for all of that. I like knowing what things are going for. Any weird bidding going on?

The only thing I noticed is that this auctioneer kept the bidding open waaaaay longer than J.R. seemed to. Not sure if this was a deliberate thing (due to the rumors about J.R. not sure what the facts are on that, just what has been mentioned previosly) or if he's trying to stretch every possible dollar out, or if maybe it's just his style (though in previous auctions when J.R. was on break, and he was covering, he seemed to close quickly.) I thought I had won only to be outbid a couple of times on these drawn out "anyone else....anyone..." situations. He also started high on a lot of items and it took him forever before he would come down, especially on the pins. The Viper pin was almost a joke.
The other thing that was kind of screwed up was when they were auctioning off the change machine, it looked like it was only going to go for about $50, but ended up going for over $300, they kept the bidding open while someone gave the machine a once-over, they kind of did the same thing on the CD jukes, opened up the bidding then spent 10 minutes trying to see if they worked. The guy commented that they should have checked the machines during the preview, but didn't really do anything about it. It seemed like he kind of let the situation get out of his control a few times. Might just be a lack of experience or something.
Again, not trying to get personal or anything, these are just observations, hope I'm not offending anyone or bustin any balls cause that isn't my intention. The guy that's doing the auctions has really stepped up and is doing a good job all things considered. He seems to be much improved from when he was just covering for J.R.'s breaks.

What I noticed about Shawn (the auctioneer) was he went from "someone give me a bid" (the way He's done it for the last couple of years), to cloning J.R.'s style of running up phantom bids. "I got 200....now 225...now 225...now 250..........anyone bid 100??"

He also cloned the way J.R would jump around. There was no reason to have a shouting contest to determine what to sell next. It would have been quicker to sell whats closest and move on from there. For instance, there were 12 pinballs and 8 juke's all in the same area. When they sold the pins, they moved on to the sitdowns. After the sitdowns, they went back to the few machines that were next to the megatouches and redemptions. Then they went back to the Jukes. They probably wasted an hour moving back and forth by skipping things in the same area instead of knocking them out.

As for any weird bidding going on, I really didn't see anything unusual this time. There were a couple of times things were sold when they didn't have a bid.

That's right, Shawn, man I couldn't remember his name for anything. Thanks :D
Where the things sold without a bid, I assumed someone had a reserve worked out ahead of time... Isn't there something on the tags that they mark when something has a reserve? I know they mark the non working ones with a red slash through the "o" in the word Lot on the tag, I thought they marked the reserve ones too... I could be wrong on that, though...
But yeah, they jumped around a lot. I'm shocked they sold the vids first and not the touchscreen/bartops. I usually show up a little late as I have no interest in those and they seem to always do them first, well, this time I missed all of the vids cause I was later than normal (it figures, the time I was running late would be the one time that they would do the vids first )
I kind of figured when they went from the touchscreens to the redemption stuff, they were just going to make a big circle and then do the sitdowns after redemption, and thenthe jukes, and pins...
We'll see how the October one goes... it's starting to not be worth the drive down...

These is always a lot of fishy stuff going on at these "Super Auctions". For one thing, the african-american guy working as one of the bid-callers (I think his name is BJ or DJ) is the guy who BRINGS the first 3-5 multigames to each auction (from what I understand...I was told this and don't have it confirmed). He also brought some of the pins to this auction.

I suppose there is nothing wrong with them bringing their own pieces to their auctions - if they were ethical in how they sold things.

You can tell which are his because there is always some note typed up and attached to the game that says some BS like "this game is brand new! We pulled it out of the crate this morning! It is perfectly ready to go on your route or into your home and will work for the next two centuries without a problem." And you can look at the game for 5 seconds and tell that it is total BS.

Then when they come to one of his games, it is fun to watch all the auction company employees. They all get really excited and say "UH OH! Look at THIS! WOW! It's a MULTIGAME!!!! WOAH!!! I can't believe it! You mean they fit 48 games all into this ONE cabinet?!?! That's like owning every game at this auction all in one cabinet! Do you all realize that? WOW!!!! This is AMAZING! Look at it! IT'S BRAND NEW!!! And I LOVE the blue T-molding! Have you ever seen a game that looks THIS great!?!?!"

Then they spend about 2 more minutes extolling the virtues of the amazing game that we're all being given the privilege to bid on. And if you're looking for fishy bidding - these are the games to find it on. Last auction in Belleville, they actually bid up the first one of his multigames to some ridiculous number (I want to say like 1325 but can't remember exactly). It was all fake bidding though, which they used to "set the price" in buyers' minds for the other 3 or 4 identical machines to follow shortly. Then they moved the first one with the fake bids down to the end of the row and "re-auctioned" it after selling the others (with NO explanation...they didn't even bother coming up with a phony excuse like the bidder changed his mind, or thought he was on another game, or whatever).

And those of you who were there...how many times did the bidding end and Shawn tried to stick the winning bidder with the next higher bid increment? At least 20 times. And every time he was caught..."oh, I'm sorry...I forgot."

And if that isn't enough. I consigned 7 pieces to sell. When I got home and looked more closely at my paperwork, they had charged me a 19.9% commission on 6 of the 7 sales, even though it says clearly on the document "Commission Settings: 15.9%" I haven't called them to dispute this yet...but I'm looking forward to that call.

I have several more concrete examples of downright dirty dealing and corruption I've witnessed or experienced with them, but I've said enough.

I don't mean to sound so negative...I enjoy all game auctions and I will continue to go to these and look for deals. But there is DEFINITELY a difference in the level of integrity with Super Auctions vs. other Auction companies I've gone to. These guys are as crooked as a dog's hind leg. I don't know where the crookedness originates - if it's passed down from the top or if it is just in a few individuals, but it seems to permeate.
