behold, a Killer Instinct Move Card I made (updated!)

I've been fixing up my KI1 again lately, trying to tie up the loose ends on it (bondo, citristrip, sanding, windex-soaked toothbrush...)

months ago I inquired about a move card for it, only to find out there never was a factory move card for this. I know there's fantasy repros and full custom bezels, but I tried to follow the same style as the KI2 one (had an extra to use as a model at home)

(read post #9!)

Nice work. Seeing the move list reminds me of how awesome a game Killer Instinct is. Congrats.

Awesome work.. KI is one that is always on my wish list. One has just never became available in my area for a reasonable price. Again, nice work.

maybe next week I'll attempt an instruction card (for the auto-doubles and combo breakers)

Wasnt the auto-double system something new for KI 2?
Thanks for the file, I will get this printed up for my KI.
It is a great game but its usually pretty expensive when you find them. I was lucky on both my KI1 and KI2, getting them as projects.

auto-doubles were in both. they were ordered differently though. KI2's whole system was rebuilt for the sake of balance. most all the fighters have 5 moves, which are also what serve as their 5 combo finishers (which makes your finishers longer, and the 5th one can only be done before you do the first 4) -- this is what makes your Ultra Combos longer too.

the auto-double system in KI1 was:
fierce punch opener -> medium kick linker
fierce kick opener -> medium punch linker
medium punch opener -> quick kick linker
medium kick opener -> quick punch linker
quick punch opener -> quick kick linker
quick kick opener -> quick punch linker

see how complicated that is?

KI2 was dumbed down to:
fierce opener -> medium linker
medium opener -> quick linker
quick opener -> fierce linker

the combo breakers were executed differently in KI1, I wanna say you had to match the attack strength, but I could be wrong. I rarely get them right in KI1 anyway, so I have to compensate with stronger offense. lol I'll research this properly when I do the instruction card.

KI2 of course made it simple: kicks break punches, punches break kicks.

typing these out from memory was kind of hard. it's all so second nature to me with muscle movement... been playing these games for 14-15 years now.

I'll get around to filling in the arrows soon, I'll leave the directions that you have to charge as outlined arrows. so don't get fancy with your glossy paper and your photo printers just yet. :)

I have a couple books on killer instinct and KI2 with all the special moves and just about any other thing you need to know about the game. I have a short attention span so never learned any of it. I just wish they had kept Riptor in KI2.

I wish they kept Cinder >:O

funny, all the really good chars were the ones they took out, and replaced with generic jerkoff characters I could care less about.

KI2 was still great though. I spent all of 1997 playing KI Gold on N64. I'd murder people to go back to that era. LOL

I have updated cards for everyone. I changed the arrows to outlines for the commands you have to charge, and overall cleaned up the layout of the moves. I have a top card too for the autodoubles and combo breakers.

they're in pdf, so just print out all parts without scaling. some assembly required.

I tried to match the dimensions of the KI2 cards, but since the combo breakers are more complex in KI1 I had to make the top card a little wider.

Reviving an old thread!

Mecha, do you still have that pdf laying around?
