beginner needs help w/ broken CRT monitor - Ann Arbor

hey everyone. i bought Rolling Thunder yesterday at a good price, confirmed it worked when i picked it up, but the CRT monitor (and its yoke) was damaged during transit. pretty sure the very tip end of the CRT tube broke, and the board on the yoke is definitely broken. the rest of the monitor assembly seems to be in good shape. and, as i mentioned, it worked when i picked it up.

let me say at this point, i bought this machine because i want to PLAY IT, not because i want to know how to take it apart and put it back together. that's not to say i have a terrible attitude, but i just want it to work and i wanted to place my questions in that context.

so, here they are:

1) since i broke both parts, is it worth trying to fix this with parts, or should i just buy a whole new replacement monitor assembly?

2) if i need a whole new monitor assembly, can i somehow replace this with an old CRT TV or monitor? and what if i wanted to use a small LCD or something instead? getting all the parts to talk to each other seems dodgy.

3) overall, any recommendations? i want this to work soon. very upset it broke.

i am in Ann Arbor, MI. i hear there's a user on here - Wiz - who's around here and may be of help, but i can't seem to find a way to get a hold of him.

Yup, PICS please.

But your best bet if you want to do it yourself and spend as little as possible probably is going to be to find a replacement CRT tube from a used TV and swap. It is possible that you may be able to use the yoke on the replacement tube but unlikely.

I would do a search on this forum and read the monitor section for posts on tube and chassis fixes/replacement.

What monitor chassis is it? (BRAND)

broke yoke

you can use a 4:3 ratio lcd from a computer with a cga to vga adapter. about 35 bucks anywhere. or find a used crt.
