Over the years I have noticed a few members who have joined the community that seem to only be here to sell their stuff and for no other reason. How should we as a community feel about this sort of thing? Should it be frowned upon? Should we embrace it? I mean, there are places specifically for doing this Ebay,CL,their own websites, etc. These types of members only post in the For Sale thread and nowhere else. When I first joined the community it was full of people being social towards each other in threads, giving tech advice, and members selling random things, you know just your typical forum. Now it seems more and more people are coming in just to sell offering nothing to the community but products which I guess is okay if it's not inferior but I feel their heart is truly not in the hobby like most of us here,it's all about the money. Thoughts??

It doesn't really bother me one way or the other.

Nor me. They are here because they have goods that we want. Now if it turns into a pile of spam for marginally related products, it'll be time for consider vendor regulations.

EDIT: So long as they don't use trashy titles that contain "*L@@K*" and other eBay style garbage.

I don't think it's a big deal. We have a pretty thriving community of goddamned nerds here. I think that if it became a problem, a sub forum would be made to relegate advertising posts there. As it stands. I don't think it;s a big deal at all.

And given the insular nature of what we do, it's good to have people mixed in with us who are selling their wares/services. It's not like there's an Arcade Repair aisle at Lowes or Home Depot.

As long as they're selling arcade/coin-on related stuff, that's fine with me.

Being that the vast majority of those who do this are selling ARCADE RELATED parts and equipment... pimp away... the more products available the better we all are.

And how, out of all the registered members here, would a no vendor ban even be enforced?

Not saying that it constitues a ban, just wondering what peoples thoughts were on the subject. If they sell to members and the members are happy with what they get then cool.

I agree. I find this the #1 go to spot to find what you need. I like when people post things for sale related to arcade parts/equipment because I may be interested!

I would think the people that don't want to see items for sale should not look in those categories or if they happen to see something where it doesn't belong, ask to have it moved.

I dont think its an issue either.

Some of us want to be members but have nothing to offer besides goods..........I know when i joined i knew nothing about working on arcades, but have learned from some great people here. I can now pass along knowledge to the next newbie.

But if some dude buys some storage unit filled with arcade cpos, bezels, parts etc. I sure hope they come here first to unload it all before feebay!

So im totally cool with new members coming here to sell Arcade Goodies.

This site is a community and to help people with knowledge we have learned and pass it along and keep the hobby alive and thriving. We dont have to get something in return, nor does anyone have to be "worthy" to receive the knowledge either. We were all noobs at one point imo. When it becomes a "secret" society thats when members start disappearing.

+1,0000! I personally like seeing things for sale. If it's garbage and no one cares, they'll go away. If they got good stuff and a good rep they'll stick around and we all benefit.

KLOV could always ad a "For Sale - Vendors" area. The vendors then could advertise their specials, newly added CPOs and artwork and the regular "For Sale" Arcade and Pinball threads wouldn't wouldn't feel like its getting spammed by vendors...
I have no problems with vendors selling here. (As long as its not RamControls)

Bring em on. Cripes it's hard enough to find what you need, we really don't need to regulate sellers here.

This past year 3 hard to find parts were sourced using KLOV members. Stuff I NEVER would have found anywhere else.

I say let them pander all they want. It's not like I have to BUY their stuff if I don't want it.

Doesn't really matter if they follow the rules and don't rip people off. I actually like the fact the market place is so large lots of deals to be had.

It doesn't really bother me because, as people have stated, stuff you need is stuff you need.

But I see what you're saying and have noticed it myself since I joined. It's kind of sucky when people only sell and not take more of advantage of the community as a whole but I also think that it could just be more noticeable because a lot of the old repair gurus and tech guys don't post as much as they used to and there's not a lot of new ones to fill the void.

I dont see anything wrong with it. The more competition there is the better prices you will get. I think there should be a vendors list with websites and a brief description of products offered. But yeah it shouldnt be a problem if someone wants to join just to sell products as long as they follow the forum rules.

Before this thread turns into another bash fest, I'd just like to point out that in the original post, I saw no call for bans of sellers or rule changes to make them participate in no sale threads. OP was just throwing a topic out for discussion. No need for anyone to feel threatened.

I check KLOV first before e-bay these days. Usually fellow members have done business with a seller on here and I can get good feed back..feel more confident making a purchase.
