Beavis and Butt-Head Prototype

anybody know what platform it was released on or was it a unique board????

if it was some standard platform, mabye somebody would dump the roms/drive and start selling kits. Youd make a ton right now.

Hopefully the owners will release the roms for that someday so it is not lost when the few boards die.

I think it was a modified home game system like the 3DO or something, there was one of the games for sale on Ebay recently and I think it mentioned what it was.

I do believe this cab is owned by klover DREAMTR and he said that a duplicate of the game was made but he had no intent of releasing it ever. I would love to make a cab of this; the gameplay looks pretty fun and it would be great to have this at home.

"heh heh, heh heh THEY COME TO SNUFF THE ROOSTER!!!"

I can't wait for the new series to come out if they decide to follow through.

I'd also love to have this game someday, but if anything i'll have to make a clone (or something close). I thought i saw 1 or 2 of these machines up for sale on the bay tho a few months ago (maybe DREAM picked it up then? or has he had it a while) /jelly

A lot! (if it sold) not sure what the end result was of it. it's far out of my price range right now.

Anyone know if these roms are available for download?

No roms yet someone should release them so us regular folks could try it out. Game is CD based probably wouldnt be hard to burn a duplicate however I hear the board set uses some type of security.

This is one Ive dreamed about since MTV did that auction years and years ago.

Why do the ROMs have to be released in order to protect the game and board when it dies? Couldn't the owner just do a dump of the ROMs and keep them? If the board develops problems, have the board repaired and then reburn the ROMs?

Or is that your way of saying "hey give me the ROMs for free so I can play it on MAME"?

Fun game! I played it at CAX this year. I usually don't like continue beat em ups, but this one held my interest for a few credits.

The purpose of MAME from MAMEDev.com:
MAME is strictly a non-profit project. Its main purpose is to be a reference to the inner workings of the emulated arcade machines. This is done both for educational purposes and for preservation purposes, in order to prevent many historical games from disappearing forever once the hardware they run on stops working. Of course, in order to preserve the games and demonstrate that the emulated behavior matches the original, you must also be able to actually play the games. This is considered a nice side effect, and is not MAME's primary focus.

I saw Beavis and Butthead available to play at CAX a few times, and didn't really have the desire to try it. I am a fan of the show, but just wasn't interested. There are thousands of other games in MAME that I have no interest in, but I am glad they are there. Don't get me wrong, I play plenty of games in MAME, but that is really not my main reason for being interested in the project. First it is a documentation project, and it is attempting to document games that I have had a lifelong fascination with. Second, and this would have to be considered a nice side benefit as well, the roms being available is a huge benefit to game owners. I have fixed a lot of my games by being able to burn downloaded rom images to replace damaged originals. I think it is way more beneficial to have the roms publicly available so they can be used by other owners of the game for repair. And yeah, there seem to be a lot of people who want to try the game, so it would be nice if it were available for them to try. That is the reason at least a couple of the owners of this game bring it to CAX; so people can play it.

You bring up accurate, legitimate and good points.

I just want to point out that it's not necessary to have the ROM images publically released in order to preserve the game should the PCB fail. The ROMs should be backed up (and the owner of a prototype will likely be sorry at some point if he doesn't), but they don't have to be released to the world should the owner not wish to do so. It could still be preserved without releasing the ROMs to the world.
