Beat up qbert cocktail with frogger in it, worth a look?

Well, if it's not obvious, i just don't know values or what things are worth, so i just ask you guys.
One of the games i figured i wouldn't really go after was a qbert, since it appears to be fairly rare and valuable compared to others.

I usually check the main arcade museum page and match up pics before i post, which i did this time as well. Appears to match in the pics.

The ms. favorite game is qbert, i just figured it's too expensive.

Something i should avoid or pursue?
Mind you, i not actually fixed any machine as of yet, not saying i can't, but it's not proven.

BTW, since i've gotten a tablet, i have issues with shopping while watching tv.

hard to tell if the qbert glass is in good condition. Looks so from the pic but who knows. Don't think repro parts have been made for this so if you grab it expect it will cost a bit to restore it to a nice qbert cocktail. Another down side is that they used a small monitor on this game even though they had plenty of space for something bigger. The up side is these are pretty uncommon so it would be cool to have a nice condition qbert cocktail. Not as desirable as an upright though so mostly a money pit unless you are into owning and preserving the rare.

Something coincidental is that someone on ebay within about 20 minutes of me has the entire inner workings of a qbert cocktail for sale, albeit $500.

Don't know if i'm much of a preservation type of guy, i think i'm in it more to play the games at will.

Nope

At $50-75 it would be a gamble.. As qbert sticks are a pain to find and aren't cheap.. Plus you need the harness, all the pcbs, and the top glass is prolly flaking.. As they always are flaking or cracking badly..

Your looking at $400-500 in parts to get it back.. Cheaper to find one complete..

That's a bit high for a converted frogger anyway..

I don't mind something i really like being a money pit, but i'm not up for it for it on something outside my top 5.
I'll just ignore it.

At that price nah but if you could talk the guy down maybe. I have a feeling he wont go much lower that a $50 to $100 price drop at best.

As far as the joystick why couldn't you just use a 4 way Nintendo Joystick? from what I have see from pictures they are nearly identical.

I have heard the same thing about the Joust CT joysticks but I just put upright joysticks in one I did you cant tell the difference if you didn't know.

I can't quite tell from the photos if those are the original Q*bert sticks or not. If the cab is running Frogger, the control panels probably have extra holes in them.

It would be interesting to take a look 'under the hood' and see what is in there. Who knows--a good amount of the Q*bert guts might still be in there (power supply, harness, sound board, etc)... or it could be entirely stripped--just a Frogger board and a switcher.

In either case, $350 is too much. If I were going to take on such a big Q*bert restore, it would be for the upright, definitely! 19 inch monitor for the win! :)
