Alright, so my Dr. Mario skills aren't that great but I decided to go at level 20 today and finally beat it.

I just don't understand the cut scene at the end! What does a baby dinosaur in an egg flying in the sky have to do with Dr. Mario!? All that I was able to say when seeing this was "wtf?"

There's my score after playing a little after the cut scene I'm BRD:

If I recall correctly... the game was NOT Mario Themed originally but rather a generic game. They branded it right at the end. My guess is they didn't get around to the ending.

Never seen the ending, that is strange. But I really didn't expect the rocket ships in Tetris either....

Completing level 20 on the NES results in a space ship coming down and beaming up the viruses. The Japanese are an odd bunch.

Never knew that, haven't beat the NES level 20.

I had similar thoughts about this game being re-branded and that was something left over that was never changed, or maybe the developers figured that not many people would beat the Vs. System Dr. Mario and decided to put something strange in it haha.

The baby dinosaur is father to Yoshi. Before Mario and Luigi were born, Taamki and Suki had three children: Danki, Joki, and Shivu. Joki is the dinosaur seen briefly at the end of Dr. Mario. It was Joki who battled in a [uncreated] adventure which came before Donkey Kong in which he grew into a dinosaur king after fighting an evil emperor in the dinosaur kingdom of Rawr. Once Joki became king, he married Yuki - formerly captive of the evil emperor - and they had a son, Yoshi. Joki eventually turned evil and, unbeknownst to Mario or anyone else, was the dinosaur who unleashed the evil viruses in Dr. Mario. After Mario discovered this, he went after Joki to keep him from spreading any more viruses - this was to be the subject of an unpublished sequel. At the end, Mario apparently kills Joki and sleeps with Yuki. Yoshi grows up thinking Mario is his father.

(I made all that up. I have no f***ing clue.)

I was pretty convinced by this while I was reading...

Guess I'll have to play on the fast setting to see the spaceship... that will probably be impossible. Seeing how I hardly made it through on the easy setting.

You get a Space Ship on High, Dinosaur on Normal

That may be true, I always thought it was too slow on anything but the high setting so I never played it on medium or slow. The highest lever I have ever achieved was 28. The number of viruses stays the same at all levels 20 and above. Eventually the viruses are stacked in a way that forces you to lose quickly.

WTF pretty much describes every game that Nintendo has put out ever.
