OK, so I just had some friends over and my guess is that one of them cracked the right half of my BZ stick. (That's just a theory).

In any case it's cracked and I just swapped a NOS right half of the stick on but I can't seem to get a perfect fit on the back half. As you can see in the picture there seems to be a small seam in the back.

Now I haven't cranked on the screws because I don't want to crack the plastic shell. In fact, I've taken the security bit and tightened the screws by hand (w/o a tool; just the security bit) until I met resistance -- and then stopped.

So my questions for you are:

1) Should I have a visible seam like this in the back?
2) Is it possible to get rid of it by tightening further?
3) Should I crank down harder on the screws?

It seems like under tightening would be as bad as over tightening.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Doesn't look right to me. Mine fit together with no gap. Can you take the shells completely off of the shaft and test-fit them together? Maybe there's a little piece of gunk in there, or a bit of the old broken shell, keeping it from fitting together fully. If that's the right handle ass'y, make sure a wire for the fire button isn't getting pinched.

Hmmm. I did that earlier -- took the shells completely off the shaft and they fit together cleanly.

This is the left stick so no wires to pinch.

Maybe I'll take the shells off again and try it with and w/o the screws in it.

OK, that was weird but I finally got it.

After getting your confirmation that it was not a normal thing, I took the shells off and was able to get them to mate with a tiny seam with and w/o the screws.

So I tried putting them back on with the shaft 3-4 more times and each time I got the seam popping up after I tightened the screws.

So I finally put it on with the screws backed almost all the way out, squeezed it and arranged it so there was no seam, then ignored the top screw and keeping pressure on the bottom of the stick hand-screwed each of the bottom screws in a bit, alternating between the two until they were in without a seam forming. Then I went back up to the top and hand-tightened it up and then tightened them all once again with a rachet thingy until they were starting to get firm but not crushingly so.

Presto, no seam and everything looks good.

Not sure why I had to go through so much nonsense but it all ended well. :)

I do....Its BattleZone! ;)

More importantly, it's ME!

If it were anyone else it would have gone on perfectly the 1st time w/o paying any attention to it. Me, I get this. :)
