Battlezone restore/refurb

Yeah, I'm still not really seeing it. (I'm not saying it isn't there, it's just hard to see from the video.)

You can always try swapping the X and Y DACs and see if things change.

You can drive yourself crazy chasing every little detail. These things are analog, so no two are exactly the same. It's always a question of if a problem is 'bad enough' to warrant trying to hunt down.
Yeah, I'm at the point that it's probably time to button it up and call it done....The things I did do so far really helped get things looking a lot better on the scope.....and fixed a lot of jumpiness too on the x axis. I appreciate it man, I'm gonna put it in the row and enjoy it:)

Dang, left this thread without a proper ending....can't think of a better one than having your kiddo enjoy the game and starting to get good at it:) She loves the game, and easy to understand why, is a super fun/addictive game! Encouraging the restored step that she's the perfect height to play the game at her age, her view lines up perfectly with the periscope..... A few words about centering BZ's picture to the back drop.....looking through the periscope it's PERFECTLY centered, but observing it from the two view windows can make it appear off center when it's NOT(it's mirrored after all)....also, you have to tweak the centering from the orientation it will be in your arcade....the centering will move depending on where you have the game facing... center it out of the row then you'll put it in the lineup and wonder WTF happened....Center it for where it will end up facing....the centering pot upgrade is mandatory IMO if you're OCD about everything lining up perfect, which I'm thankful I was able to do. Thanks everyone who viewed and commented on the thread!

FYI, you can also use the positioning tabs on the yoke to adjust the image slightly. (And you can also move the whole yoke, if it's way off.)

The centering pot mod is fine, but there's more than one way to skin that cat.

Nice job on the restore.

Thanks Andy!

So after all that, I'm stoked....ready to button up the game...reinstall the periscope....and I get NO SOUND from the periscope speakers...upon inspection....Damnit!!! The voice coil lead broken right at the paper where it's impossible to repair....One thing I notice is that it looks like the wood has pre-drilled holes for screws for speaker replacement(which jives with the Atari manual, even though the stock ones are stapled in), that will save a lot of stress/mess/danger....will still cover that marquee during the process to make sure it doesn't get scuffed up:View attachment 796512

Have two of these incoming, at least it will be a nice bump in sound quality/power handling...these are full range, have a whizzer cone, increased frequency response:

Pretty sure the holes are from the rivets keeping the metal screen on.

You are correct....but they also are perfectly aligned for the spacing required for the speaker size(5 inch) mounting screws....and they work great!IMG_9476 - Copy (2).JPG

Ended up having to replace the interboard headers with new square pin headers and a new interboard harness with trifurcons just to keep it solid....made a big difference in reliability.....Will have to replace R702 pot on the G05 Deflection board, because no matter how much I clean/deoxit the pot....you have to nudge it(not even move it) to keep a consistent size....just put pressure on it and it snaps back into place.

I'm considering just removing the centering bellows and running the joysticks without them....of course I replaced one of them with Jason's and the other was original if you read back in the thread....as you can imagine the original didn't last long before it was a goner lol....but TBH I LIKE the joystick without the bellow ....it would definitely save wear and tear on the joysticks handles too...I'm just gonna run both without it....faster/more accurate play too.
@andrewb Did I read right on here somewhere you also run them without the bellows, am I not alone on this?

Anyway just an update.

Ha, I was just going to reply. Yes, I said that at one point, a long time ago.

I still don't have bellows in mine. :)
Right on, yeah it IS better without them...they gone!
