Battlezone Restoration Without Side Art

That looks quite awesome.

Control Panel Final Look

After spraying the gloss black over the contact paper, then re-masking for a pass of gloss blue in the center here is the result. I clear coated it as well (someone actually asked me if it was a new CPO after seeing it).

Final Look

Here it is!!! I'm 95% happy with it. There is no substitute for repro art if it's available, but otherwise this approach seems to be a great option IMO.

Close up of CP

I'm particularily happy with the way the CP came out. After a few months I'll pull the CP apart and wet sand it with 2000 grit, and power buff the orange peel out of the clear. It should look killer...

Very well done! I like the idea of saving the original art, especially when the original control panel is painted like BZ.

Dude, you gotta put up some pics of the Missile command or did i just not see them ?

Believe it or not Dave... that Missile Command is the very same one that was at that auction that you picked up your second Sea Wolf... yeah... the one with the beat down black sides...

Super good work here! May take your approach for my sideart, as the art itself is pretty good but the edges have some rot and may need a lot of patching and a total repaint of the white.

You lost me on the CP part, tho. You mention contact paper - did you sand, apply contact paper for texture then paint over the contact paper?

My colored areas are not bad and the black had some scratching and rusting. Just rubbed in a few coats of black shoe polish for now and it looks better than it did (dulled a lot of the scratching and rusting) but that's more of a temporary fix.
