Took a look at a guy's Battlezone yesterday. I'd like to help him get it working again. Looking for ideas for the next time I go over there.

He's got a Battlezone that's been broken for over 18 years.

Game comes up, runs, plays blind (sounds great actually) but on the monitor you just get a squiggly green diagonal line. I've looked through all the Battlezone repair threads and I don't see any other examples with this exact symptom. I will try jiggling wires looking for loose soder joints. Any other suggestions?

Catch up with member road.runner. He'll walk you through getting into the test mode and finding out exactly what error messages are being reported (if any). He can also fix the board if needed.

jeez, diagonal?? like from top left to bottom right? Weird...I'm not very well versed in vector but if its crossing the screen I'd think the deflection is ok...? I wonder if the roms are messed up? Have you pulled and reseated the 4 (I think 4?) graphic roms? Its probably something crazy that has to do with the monitor but it cant hurt to pull and reseat roms...

Actually when it's in test mode, I believe there's diagonal lines. Have you tried flipping the test switch on the coin door? (hopefully it's still there, someone cut the one out of my BZ)

might seem a bit eird answer.i got a star castle here (now it got monitor prob) before it went dicky i was messing with the fuses on the monitor chassis, weird thing is,if the fuses were just put back any old how the pic would go,then switching them the other way round would give a weird line like you say.

basicly when all the fuses were put back the way they were when the monitor originaly worked (although be it a bit dicky) everything went back to how it was.

incidently,i blew the power supply, after mesing with the pots, hen it was repaired by me,the game runs bland but,i had a small dot on the monitor.now after messing with it totaly theres nothing on screen full stop.
:)

For help with another thread about BZ, are there holes drilled in the side of this cabinet or no? 1 hole on each side, about the size of a half-dollar?

Get the Battlezone High Score save kit and eliminate all the roms/sockets.

Best advice *EVAR*!!! I got two for our Battlezones and one for our Red Baron just so I could be done with random bit errors. They would pop up at the worst time like when you wanted to actually *play* the games. :D

Which reminds me... if you're reading this Tim... eh-hemmm... Battlezone High Score Kit... eh-hemmm... ;)

thanks for the suggestions guys. i'll keep them in mind the next time i'm over there.

to clarify, it's a squiggly diagonal line from bottom left to top right. You know, I didn't watch it real long so maybe it changes its position, but that's how it looked when I saw it. Kinda jumping and squiggling all over.

Also, the game is fully functional playing blind. He can start it up and drive around and shoot. First thing I'll do after shaking the wires looking for loose soders is try to get in to test mode as suggested. If there's a problem there, i'll have him spring for the high score kit every talks about.
