Well I replaced the wrong type 04 arII with a 02. Rectifier installed in the power supply. Replaced big blue, Now it appears I have good power. Plugged in a new black light white (that was a chore), ordered new bulb receptacles for the coin door lamps. I plugged in the PCB and powered up with my fingers crossed. I get a red LED on the main PCB and it rattles the coinmech solonoids. Powered down. Plugged in Auxilliary board. No Led. Still rattles the heck out of the solonoids so I powered down before I burnt something up.
Going to ensure the dip switches are set for factory. Anyone run into this clicking and clattering before? I'm also getting some computer explosion noises, like sound generator gone nuts. It only happens when I plug the Main pcb in. Should recieve an 802 monitor today or Monday for it. But that in itself will be a seperate task I'm sure. So I'm flying blind on this repair. Those interconnects are pretty solid between the aux and main pcb so I left them on for now.

Check the pins on those interconnects for cracked solder.

Also, there are some crappy sockets on those boards.

Probably wouldn't hurt to reflow. I'm half afraid of those connectors. I don't think that interconnects been off there for 30 years. It's stuck solid.
The solonoid rattling occurs without the auxilliary plugged in, may do a quick video of it just to demonstrate the issue. May start pulling chips and reseat tonight.

Well I managed to seperate the two boards. Scotchbrite the headers and interconnect pins. Reseated all socketed IC's. The solonoid issue has ceased. So that apparently fixed that.
I have good voltages to both boards and the red led is lit on the main board, however on the auxilliary the led is still off. I grabbed another LED I had in stock and touched the contacts on the back of the board, still nothing, so the LED itself is probably fine. Tested +5v on the auxilliary and it's sitting find at around 5.02
Hooked up the oscope to x and y outputs. Nice bright Dot center screen. Great, another completely dead board.
Nothing is overly hot on the two boards. I tried the service switch on the coin door, nothing. No beeps.
Eventually, this is going to become old hat and within 10 minutes I'll have it running at this rate.

Well I reflowed the interconnects on both sides. I replaced a cracked rectifier on the coin lockout. I was warned to unplug the G05 from output. So that's been done. Would you say my next step would be to replace all the sockets? There's a few caps I'd like to replace, not that they've been tested but they just look pretty bad.
Here's what I've got and yes I am still learning basic PCB repair. So don't get too upset at me. I'm trying.

If you're still learning PCB repair, replacing all the sockets at once may cause more damage than solve. Not saying I'm any better tho. FYI - the interconnect on my Tempest had bad solder joints, and was the problem keeping it working for years.

well, maybe I didn't state it correctly. My PCB repair skills are lacking in that it's hard for me to diagnose exactly what is wrong. What would take a repair tech 15 minutes to discover could take me weeks, months or I'd never find it.
As far as replacing sockets, I've done it before. I repaired a SI's audio by clipping all the bad IC's legs, unsoldering the remains, cleaning it up and placing a socket, and new ic.
But BrentRadio had already done all the legwork for me in the diagnosis.
I am terrible at finding the exact problem and resort to shotgunning and a hail Mary.
Once I know which IC or component is bad - it's a simple task of replacing it.
So I think I'm a step above a straight novice? But I suck at FINDING the problem, taking logic probe readings and not knowing what the results 'should' be, or what the implications are, when they aren't. That's what sucked about people telling me check this ic pin for this signal. I reported back the results - only to hear crickets. :p
