Bought a battlezone that "worked great until I moved it". I was hoping something just came loose during the move from the seller but it does not look that way. Replaced all the fuses but game will not play blind and monitor is black. All 3 boards have a solid red light. Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks

Hi Steve,

There are a lot of things that can go wrong with a Battlezone.. have you tried putting the board into test mode? (There is a little switch for this inside the coin door.) Even if you have no video output or a dead monitor, test mode can send out some test tones indicating RAM failure, etc.

Red lights on the CPU and math boards is a good sign. You should still get out a multimeter and check your voltages though. Put your multimeter in DC mode and check for +5V from corner to corner across one of your logic chips.

Sweet, when I get home today around 3:30 I will try the test mode, I saw that switch in there. Thanks

Check the voltages. The main problem with a game like BZ is that when moving it (especially on it's back) is that the edge connectors can come off or get loose. This causes a poor ground connection which will cause a resistor on the ARII board to burn up...

If you are not getting any power at all, check the safety interlock switch and make sure that it is still functioning. I had moved a Stargate about 2 weeks ago, after the move - I plugged it in and it was dead. After about 5 minutes of poking a proding at the game, I realized that the door safety switch had split open from a slight thump during the move. I ordered a new switch and I was up and running.

prolly one of the three connectors on the pcb's just needs to be re-seated, but then again it could also be the monitor connections

great game but a real PITA to move & expect it to act properly, i can't slide mine away from the wall with out having a similar problem

thanks for the info guys, I will be trying all of this tonight, even got a spare ARII board to try out from a friend.

I tried the test mode and no sounds. I re-seated all of the connections and nadda. I pulled the boards and they look great front and back. For some reason the credit counter on the coin door goes crazy every now and then when left on. All fuses are good.

All boards still have a solid red light. I am buying a multi meter today and will start checking voltage tomorrow when I finally have the time again. I need to research how to check voltage, never done that. I am not getting a glow from the monitor neck as well.

Have you pulled and re-seated the interconnects? They are known to be problematic. Mine are...

BZ is my nemesis... I get her running... turn her off... come back later... no workie. Tap here ... tap there... works... re-solder the interconnects... works great... turn off... no workie... BLAH!!!

Do yourself a huge favor and order the high score save kit for it. That will eliminate some potential problems right away.

wise words, contact braze technologies or arcadeshop, installing the high score / rom saver allow you to get rid of quite a few of the problems caused by the flakey rom sockets

Frizzle Fried, thank you for the info, I will try that next. You might remember that I was that guy from Oregon a few years ago in the blue truck that bought your Pole Position arcade game? I was druelling in your garage arcade room? Anyways thanks man and I will try that on Thursday, Steve
