Working on a battlezone cabaret and the game plays blind. Coin up and audio work fine. All DC voltages going into PCB are good.

Monitor was rebuilt but spot killer is always on.

Checked monitor/game connector, using the B&W Vector FAQ PDF v1.2 as a reference (page 42). Pins 1 through 6 are all zero volts. I have 30VAC at pin 7 and 10. Pin 11 and 12 are also zero volts.

Does anyone have an idea where to start? I'm assuming something is dead on the Analog Vector Generator board.

Any input is appreciated.

The heater voltage (6.1VAC) comes from the Power brick directly, and powers the globe in the coin door also

If the coin door globe illuminated?

OK, check this out, As I was sitting here after making that post, i zoned out for a a bit trying to do a little more reading, and i forgot to turn off the power to the game. All of a sudden i heard something sizzling in the monitor, and quickly rushed over to pull the power. just before i did i noticed i was getting neck glow, however i was in too much of a panic to check the spot killer. Definitely something fried, i can smell it.

Now, i've pulled the monitor, and taken off the HV cage. And i'm inspecting everything to try and find where the magic smoke was coming from.

Ugh... :004_smad:

Looks like i blew F700. All other fuses are good. The smoke looked like it came outta the HV cage... but i can't find anything fried...

Just tested the anode diode (D904), and i get nothing. No readings, no short, no value, nothing. Can't tell if the smell is coming from it or its just the old grease.

D904, the HV diode?
How did you try to test that? Can't use a DVM diode setting - won't work.
Inside it are many diodes in series, you'd need a high voltage source to be able to make them conduct. It will always ohm out as high impedance.

Got a scope?? Test the main board X/Y/Z outputs.
Got some $$$?? Buy a cap kit and also replace the transistors etc.
Got a soldering iron?? Resolder all the headers.
Got a voltmeter?? Validate all the voltages first - on power brick, on main board and on harness(es).

BTW, F700 protects the yoke. Your drive transistors are probably toast.

You FAILED to follow RULE #1 of vector game repair - if the SPOT KILLER is ON, then disconnect the damn monitor. Newbs ... damn. LOL
