battlezone no sound at all..

I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out why the sound didn't work on one once, and was pissed when I eventually figured out it was because a wire came off the volume pot...

Need more info... was it working and quit? or has it never worked?

The game came to me totally dead fuses blown all over (monitor and main block).. I fixed the ar2, the pcb had some issues.. there were a lot of wiring issues big mess, anyway down to this one last problem..

I think I've traced it down but ran out of steam tonight. Going to work on it some more tomorrow.

that was the first place I went.. I've been down that road before!!!

Verify two things.
1. The speakers are present, notice I said speakers NOT speaker. (3 IIRC)
2. The speakers are all plugged in to their respective connectors.

Check for audio coming into the AR board... if it is, and not going out then replace the audio amp IC.

Or, you could just check it for cracks, bulges, burn marks, etc...

I replaced big blue and the bridge rectifier while I was under there, now I have crackling coming out of the speakers when I adjust the pot. I verfied the wiring to the pot. I have already re-flowed all of the pins on the connector between the main and aux pcb.

I verified the wiring from the aux pcb to the connector on the ar2 board. Should I be able to hook up a speaker to the speaker + and speaker - on the pcb and faintly hear the sound?

i'm really leaning on problems with the aux board. I tried swapping pokeys for grins and it made no difference. I'm going to try to find a tested working aux board and go from there..

Anyone have one for sale?

Maybe.

If you have a 'scope, this would be a good time to use it.

I'd get the Battlezone schematics, and start tracing the audio signal back from the edge connector to the parts where the sound is generated. If I recall correctly, there's an LM324 amp somewhere along the way, and those sometimes fail. A close physical inspection of the parts along the path wouldn't hurt -- the problem could also be as simple as a mylar cap anywhere along the signal path that got knocked off.
