Since I'm sure the monitor has been moved around in my battlezone, as I'm tweaking the placement of the gels/backdrop/monitor position....trying to get it perfect....

I'm noticing two areas of monitor placement on the brackets...you have play in the monitor bezel bracket(that I scooch towards the periscope)...and you also have an adjustment of the monitor frame in the monitor wooden bezel itself....on mine, it's currently with the space towards the green gel(I think that's wrong and isn't lining up with the backdrop)...

towards the green gel

I've looked around for a while and I see on most BZ monitors the space is towards the red gel....or, better put the monitor is slid towards the periscope on the underneath bracket for the whole monitor assembly, but slid towards the periscope also on the monitor frame it self.

Just wondering where you guys have it set, just to get a consensus to find for sure what was proper from the factory..

These look to be stock/factory placement:

Look here and it's towards the red gel(cued up):

Here too:

Basically I'm wondering if the monitor is placed all the way forward(towards the periscope) on both adjustments from factory.

I need to re-affix the gels to my monitor too. Someone had swapped monitors at some point (from the burn I can tell it was from Omega Race), and they made a nice mess with duct tape to put the gels on. I got that all cleaned up and now I want to put the gels back on cleanly/correctly. Can someone with an unmolested monitor measure where that red/green division line should be on the tube face? Also, I assume the two gels just get butted up together as best as possible? Or do they get overlapped slightly?

They overlap slightly...a maximum of 1/8 of an inch so the manual says.....I had to replace my green gel. In the pic above was the result, I tried to follow the manual's instructions for placement...but from pics I've seen it's all over the place... I did try to place it where the originals were but that may have been tampered with too on my game.

From the manual:
"If you must replace the monitor, place the red
and green overlays on the face of the new pic-
ture tube as follows. Place the red overlay within
the top 4 inches of the screen; then butt up the
green overlay to the red one. (These overlays
may overlap by a maximum of 1/8 inch.)"

My BZ (upright w/ periscope) R/G gels are attached to a "flat" black cardboard bezel. Then I can just move it up/down to align to the vectors if necessary.
Never seen the gels taped to the tube before (in an upright BZ w/ mirror).

Most of them are taped to the tube from what I've seen(like the two examples above as well as others I've seen)...and the cardboard bezel just sits on top....here's another example from a post here on the forum(not mine, just saved the pic for reference, TY to the original poster): The manual even states it's placed on the face of the tube....but it's vague.

My way is better. LOL :)
I've seen the billtronix way and the other factory way....it's really all over the place as to what's original. My bezel was missing, I did pick up one from joeycuda thankfully....I'm just trying to button this bitch up and play it...PITA lol...GD I wanna play some BZ! :ROFLMAO:

Ah, the Biltronix way = my OEM way. Curious.

Yeah man, but he added a lot that wasn't original meaning wood to have the bezel hover above(and have the monitor bolted to the underside of the wood frame....none of the battlezones I've seen do it that way.......I've looked at that...and I'd just assume do it like most Battlezone I've seen(that look to be factory)....

I didn't add the extra wood or realign the monitor. I just have the gels attached to the black cardboard bezel and lying on top of the CRT.
I always thought that .......

Your machine. Do what you think is best. :)

It would be easier probably, just trying to find out what's original for sure....I've been wresting with it for a while now working all this out....that would would eliminate some glare too I bet...I appreciate you commenting.

It's been a journey:

No one ever said this hobby is easy.
And if it was, where's the fun in that. LOL :jester2:

BZ is an awesome game. In my "TOP 5" favorites.
You'll be so happy when it's all up and working.
And so sad a day later when it breaks down.

You can also add more POTs to the BZ AVG board to have more control over the alignment of the display.
The extra POTs (and R/C) allow for CENTERING control (over X and Y). Though that's not concerning you at present. It's a nice-to-know upgrade.
(See schematic for details).

Got that right, definitely not my first rodeo here, but there's so much undocumented that shouldn't be, that's what I'm hoping to do here in this thread........it's a grail game for me so the hype is off the charts....but wanting to do it proper definitely adds to the wait, and that's fine. I'm very far along in the restore, just those finishing touches! I need to go ahead and start that restore thread...

Way ahead of you, I already have that pot centering kit @mrbill08 was kind enough to hook me up with, got his nice fuse block covers too for the brick, turned out nice!
