So last night I got a PM from Kalan714, saying that he knew of a Battlezone, Defender, and Phoenix in AZ that could probably be had for a good price. I kinda dig Battlezone and I know Jawhn likes Defender, so I thought maybe we could get a deal by buying both.

$175 later (75 for Defender and 100 for BZ):

Cosmetically, Battlezone is in very nice shape. Plays blind. Needs the green cellophane, the step needs to be re-surfaced, and it needs a back door, but the cabinet and artwork are in fantastic shape. One of the joysticks is a bit sloppy, and the left thumb button is missing.

All in all, the price was right. Hopefully I can get it up and running.

A big thank you to Kalan for pointing these out to me, and thank you Jawhn for picking BZ up and delivering it to my house while I'm home with strep throat.

Congrats. I got mine in a package deal and it is one of my favorites. Are you gonna get the little step for it? It looks kinda skinny without it.

Battlezone can be a pain in the ass to keep running 100%...check the interconnect cables and also reflow solder on the interconnect pins. They always seem to be a problem with this game.

A lot of people find this game boring after a while but I think it's pretty cool. It is fairly easy to master the regular and super tanks but the buzz bombs always seem to get me in the end. My high score is around 300k now. I have gotten pretty good at all the tricks of the game except escaping from a buzz bomb just before it hits me (and I can no longer shoot it). That is what usually takes all of my lives during a game. Sometimes if I move forward and away from the bomb just before it hits me it will go past, with time I should be able to figure it out.

It would be cool to see a kit that offers some new twists on this game - like capture the flag or some new enemies. I thought I read somewhere that someone was trying to do that and Atari or whoever owns the rights to the game said no. Bummer.

If you are referring to the hole on top of the left control stick there is a piece of plastic that fits in there to cover it up. People sell that part. Mine was missing too when I bought my machine. As I recall I got mine from someone in California. I think Mylstar might have it.
