90K finally...

...next stop: 100K

EDIT: Shit... wrong forum. Oh well.. Can't delete it... so it'll stay.

:004_sbiggrin:

My buddy scored 130k in only his third or fourth time playing the game since BITD. On a good night I can hit 75k. I love the music that plays when you hit 100k. It's the same that is played when the high score board is displayed for you to enter your initials.

Ahem. I'll just leave this here.

Man I love Battlezone but I can't even get 30,000 on mine! Could one of you guys put up a tips video on YouTube?

I've been stuck at 275K for a while now. But I got close the last time I played so there's hope yet.

There is definitely a patter to killing any tanks. Unless something weird happens like you get trapped by an object you're pretty much going to die from missiles. Of course there is a kind of pattern to those too, just easier to back into an object and get nailed. Tanks I back up and line them up with the edge of the view on the radar, just out of view on the screen, then I keep them there going forward until I slam into them, then back up turn and fire quickly after slamming them. Missile I try to nail them as soon as they come out and get close to the ground, that gives me a second chance if I miss the first time, in the second chance you want them to get as close as possible before shooting.

Frizz, that's a gorgeous picture of your screen. I tried to take one for a friend and had a hard time getting the picture to come out right. Did you do anything special for the shot?

Good job and good luck with 100K! I'm still stuck around 45K, but I am really out of practice with BZ. I think I'll definitely fire up the BZ mini tonight.

90k is just about where I am topping out since installing the high score save kit. Battlezone has become THE game for competition between my 16 YO son and I. So far I rule . . .

I don't know about the OP, but how I photograph my BZ screen...
-flash off!
-aperature as wide as possible (the means a the lowest F-stop number).
-hold camera VERY steady (a tripod is best).

It's difficult to get enough light for a good image while also getting a short enough exposure time to prevent blur (due to either camera motion or on-screen motion). Having a fancy camera (digital SLR) helps, becasue the lenses tend to have larger aperatures than point&shoot cameras.

My current HS is ~130,000. I'd love to see some youtube video of missile techniques. As mentioned by another poster, the tanks aren't too much of an issue for me... but those missiles whip my ass. I haven't been able to develop a reliable technique for them yet.

Oh, and for those with uprights and periscopes: Do you have a "regular" (deep blue looking) black-light? Or a "white" black-light? I could hardly see my cardboard background with a dark-blue one, so I switched to a "white" black-light (harder to find, I had to go to a local lighting specialty store). I love it--in addition to the UV light, it gives of some white light so the cardboard background is nicely lit (but not too bright).

My camera has a "night" setting which works great for vids if I turn off the flash...

I also found a kickass trick for cameras with crappy night settings. Take a piece of dark tape (I use aluminum tape) and cover the flash with it. Now take a photo... the settings most cameras use in (AUTO) look great when taking monitor shots ... but the flash kills it... cover the flash and you're golden!

Seriously, spend 5 minutes with Brian and you'll improve exponentially. It is all about coming in with your tank at an angle where the enemy bullets don't hit you.

I have zero problems with the standard tanks... and I am getting pretty good with the super tanks as well. It's the damn missiles. The first wave is easy... the 2nd wave gets harder... by the time you get to the 75K+ range the missiles kick your ass.

...because you've got the wrong angle. :)

Thanks! (filler filler)

I'll try that too! :)

Yeah... I suck.

:)

Thanks for the confirmation though. I'm up to 92K as of last night.

Just ignore the fact there is a scoring glitch in BZ that produces the really high scores in a short game...

I can't believe they would try to pass those off as legit.

I've never legitimately hit 1 million, but I have seen the supertank kill bug 3 times. My high (back when I had decent reflexes) was just over 700,000.

The missles are easy to deal with. It takes a little bit of timing, but when you first hear the buzzing, hit reverse with both sticks count to 2 and fire. About 50% of the time you will hit the missle just as it touches down. The first missle comes straight at you so fire again as soon as you can. The second missle dodges right then comes straight on, the third missle dodges right then left then comes straight on.

On the later missles, if your second shot misses, start backing away at an angle (you are still backing up, right?) and wait for the missle to come close, then dodge forward full speed. If you get the timing right it will miss you and you will be lined up for the next one.

Supertanks suck.
