Hello,

So it's been a week since I last turned on my Battlezone game. Turned it on tonight to play and nothing. Or almost nothing. The situation is:

1) Screen is blank, just the small white dot in the center of the screen
2) Marquee light is working
3) There is no sound
4) The start button is lit a solid red (not blinking; I have the game set for free play)
5) The coin door lights are not working
6) The LED on the auxiliary PCB is lighting up
7) The LED on the analog vector-generator PCB is not lighting up (but I've never really paid any attention if this has ever lit up before or not)
8) I tried a second monitor & have the same results. So I think it's not a monitor issue?
9) I have a high save kit installed (been in for at least a month & has worked no problem)

Does anyone know what the issue may be or experianced this before? Any help or advice at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks & take care!

-Dave

OK, update here. Turns out the prob was the Vector-Generator PCB. I tried re-seating the connector on this board to the wiring harness with zero results. I finally left the power on and fiddeled with this connector and I heard sound!! :) No picture!! :-( Turned the machine off and removed the board. I then proceeded to clean the contacts with Isopropyl alcohol (91%) and a q-tip. They were filthy. Got them all nice & clean, put the board back in, reconnected the board and sound & picture came on! But the picture was frozen..... <grrrrrrr> Re-seated the connector again and now everything works!

I'm still very new to alot of this, especially trying to troubleshoot an issue like this. I know what I physically did, yet don't have a clue really what I did to get it to work. The +5V LED on this board still doesn't light up, yet the game is working now.

Any advice on what might be the problem? Was all it needed was a simple cleaning?

Take care,
-Dave

Sounds like cracked solder on all your header pin connections. You just fiddled with everything enough to get 100% contact again. Bump the machine....back to problems. Next time you have that board out...look at the solder side of the board with a 10X loupe at the header pins. If large cracks encircle them or even worse you can wiggle them....take 5 minutes and re-flow all of them...you will be glad you did. And then welcome to arcade repair-land....
