Hi all, I just picked up this game and the monitor is kind of flaky. I installed a Bob Roberts cap kit with transistors and still I have this problem. There is a bright dot in the middle of the screen with lines tracing away from it, also it seems that any graphics are traced with lines as well. It is not the bright or the contrast, I tried that. Any ideas?

I think the spot killer is on, there is a red LED on the monitor pcb that is lit. I thought when the spot killer circuit came on the graphics would go dead....???

Are there any more adjustments on this chassis other than Brightness and contrast? My brightness pot seems to only make it no picture to dim. The contrast doesn't seem to do a thing.

Thanks

If the spot killer is on, you can turn the brightness up until you "overcome" it. But honestly, it usually doesn't care if your z-blanking isn't working correctly which is what it seems like with your picture.

I have EXACTLY the same problem after installing a BR kit on my G05-802.....

It was working FINE (apart from some obvious "dry-cap wobble" before I did the kit.

I've checked the cap directions 5 times and I am 100% sure they are correct.

I hadn't adjusted anything.

Now, the contrast doesn't do anything and the brightness can only turn it up until it shows a retrace picture like yours....

Did you solve this ? I think it has something to do with the Z amp....

Maybe a bad cap in the kit ??

Damn, I hate it when things get WORSE after a cap-kit....

Checked the LED and sure enough it was shorted. Desoldered it and still shorted.

Powered up the game without the LED and it works fine !!!!

Installed a new LED, power up, bright constant burning LED, no picture......

Something in the spot-kil is screwing up I guess...

Yup Q502 full short on all legs.

Why would a cap-kit blow these ? Or is it coincidence ?

Something else I noticed, is it normal that when the monitor is fired up the neck-glow goes very bright initially and then goes back to a normal glow.
Is that normal start-up "procedure" ? I just never paid attention to it ....

Removed Q502 and it runs fine now. Of course I will have to replace it to get the spot-kill function back. Already ordered and expect the part to be here by monday or tuesday.

I'm not running it without playing it so it's fine for a couple of days (won't have much time to play anyway...)

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but before I cap-kitted the monitor, the only real issue that it had was at the screen where you enter your initials after getting a high score.

The lines of text seemed to move up and down a bit. Not the complete text in one direction, but each line seemed to move independently, like they're "waving".

After the cap-kit it still does this a bit.

Also....the focus pot seems to have 0 effect ?
