Battlezone coins up then starts automaticaly and fires in a straight line constantly

Ok im working on a battlezone everything works ok except as soon as it coins up, it starts playing automatically then just starts shooting constantly in a straight line. I disconnected all the control and it does the same thing. I unplug the Auc board and it stops. I cant find a short in the start or fire button wires. Any ideas? What controls this on the math/aux board. The test mode comes up ok. Ian i think you worked on this?

If you're certain that your wiring is OK...

The fire signal goes onto the aux board at pin12. It has pull-up resistor R44. There should be +5VDC here when you are NOT pressing the fire button (i.e. most of the time). Look at your pull-up resistor. It then goes thru a filter consisting of R52 & C35. It then goes into pin 10 of your POKEY @ B/C2.

Bzone

WHat was cause it to start automatically though? I am certain its not the wiring because its completely disconnected. Is really weird. It just shoots one after the other. Would a bad POKEY cause this?

Yes, it sure can.

Any of the above things could be doing it. Something is taking away the +5 volts. You probably have a short at or near pin 12 of the aux board or resistor/cap lead touching something else. Like most boards the buttons usually ground pins to fire, add credit, and start game.

Yes a bad pokeys will cause this. Remove the pokeys and try again. Then swap them. See if the problem follows.

Try cleaning the insides of the legs on the POKEY chips before you go replacing them. The OEM sockets make contact on the insides of the legs and if you have gunk, corrosion, oxidation, etc. on them then you could end up with strange things happening.
