I was changing the marqee lights in my battlezone. I noticed it had 2 fluorescent tubes, one cool white F15T8, and the blacklight F15T8BL.

The F15T8BL blacklight bulb that came out of it was all white in color, and looked like a normal fluorescent bulb, but it said "blacklight" on it.

The one I got at home depot was a F15T8BLB, a real black light fluorescent bulb. Looked the same but jet black in color (like the ones at the old Spencer Gift Stores!). The white colored fluorescent bulb that came out of it was desiginated BL (blacklight), the black colored fluorescent bulb I bought was desiginated BLB. Which one does Atari Battlezone use, a real black light bulb dark in color, or this all white colored normal looking bulb labeled "blacklight'?

I was also going to clean the mirror while inside. What should one use as a cleaner as not to mess up the sliver coated side? The silver side is coated with dirt.

Thanks

The white one puts off black light by definition.

The purple one puts out blue light by definition.

Wrong.

The fluorescent emission spectra are the same... the BLB has phosphors which re-radiate the absorbed energy in the UV range (and bleeds into the visible violet range) giving a purple appearance in addition to the UV... the BLW's phosphors re-radiate across the visible spectrum, giving a white appearance in addition to the UV.

Thank you for clearing that up for me Mark.

I take it you didn't understand my reply, since you appear to be insinuating that your answer was correct...

Let's not make this a pissing match.

I understood your response perfectly. All I did was put it in basic terms, that anyone could understand. You broke out the technical differences that I felt were not needed in this case.

what is the difference between the two? Where does one get a white colored blacklight?

"White" black lights are quite a bit "brighter" than their "blue" black light counterparts. You can find them at most speciality lightening stores (RE: most Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. does not stock them).
