Battle Zone pcb repairs? - images

After testing my Battle Zone boards at Dan (Thanks again DJW90) both of my boards need work. Road.Runner is pretty swamped right now. Who else is good at Battle Zone board repairs? How about Elektron Forge? Anyone else?

Thanks,
Steverd

So after reseating all of the chip and plugging into my working Asteriods.
I can get two screens, One is the cross hatch lines and the other is a scrolling Battle Zone going up the screen. Thoughts on this? Something simple like the Inter board harness?

Thanks,

Wait if it's some bad rams, can't I just order the high score save kit
to bypass the RAMs? Or at least do that first before sending the boards out to get fixed?

Have you read the manual section about self-test mode?
If not, do so. Then enable test mode and listen for beeps and look at the screen for any text along with the crosshatch pattern.

Oh, and the HSS kit only replaces the ROMs... not the RAMs.

Yes - I get ONE Beep (not a long high tone) and then the cross-hatch screen.
Nothing else on the screen. No numbers or toggle settings, or character set.

Thoughts on this? Shoulder a get a RAM replacement set? Does anyone sell such a thing?

Here is the manual for test mode..

I think the fact that both boards showed a problem here makes me think the AUX pcb still has issues.. Remember your AUX came up with my main board but there were missing graffics on the screen..

Now that you have a picture we should retest your main board with my AUX board..

Did you test the BZ monitor in your Asteroids?

Thanks Dan, That manual is better than the one I have.

So when I got home I pulled, cleaned and reseatted all of the chips that I could remove. The above images are from my Battlezone plugged into the Asteroids monitor. So my Battlezone monitor is bad also. I guess I'll start a thread for that also.

To answer your earlier question, Elektron Forge is very good at repairs but bad at communications and I've had 6+ weeks go by trying to get his approval to send him boards to be repaired. I finally gave up and now look elsewhere.

I've used road.runner to repair my BZ boards and am a huge fan of his but I've also heard nothing but good things about Talon2000. Once you've narrowed it down a bit I'd probably go that route.

Looks like I will use Talon2000, as soon as I give up.
I fixed a few cold solder joints tonight. I sometimes now get the moon and the sights on the screen about 75% of the time.. Although a little faint.

I probably should just seen it out and focus on the monitor repair now.

Thanks

+1 on Talon2000 (Kevin)

BZs are a bitch due to the crappy sockets, bad interconnect harness and just all around nastiness.

Kevin is pretty sharp on these as he has fixed numerous ones for me on his PAT9000. Stands behind his work too.

So you can plug a BZ into an Asteroids? That means i can test my Asteroids board in my BZ? Haven't looked at the pinout. Never thought to!

Not without some major re-wiring.

Asteroids only has a 44 pin edge connector, Battlezone has 2 of em.
