most kits have a diode (to stop power from trying to charge your non-rechargable replacment battery) and either "AA" battery holder with wires you then solder on.. same issue can still corrode. the other option is adding a small 3v lithium battery and holder... same idea with the diode. Allows the battery to power the memory stuff but wont let power try to charge the non chargable battery.
Will this battery leak, and should be replaced?
From the pic you must wonder if the board works.
