I looked at this pin today but did not buy it yet! Have some questions for the experts first.
1. The DMD was not working (had two lines through it). Is it most likely shot? Anyone have one I can buy? How much?
2.When I got there I played the game, turned it off, did not have an allen wrench to move the top down but tried with a screw driver and opened the coin door. Plugged it back in and game did not work. Light came on but that is all. Do these have a safety switch?

Thanks for the help

The DMD you are going to be looking for is a 128 x 16 display. Very hard to come by. And not cheap. There are some tutorials to fixing a DMD if the wires are broken that go into the display, but you are taking a chance on ruining the display. Not an easy choice. I looked at the usual places and didn't see anyone with that display still in stock.

As for the game not working. If it was set to free play and you unplugged it and the batteries were dead it might have gone back to factory settings, meaning you would need to put it back on free play to start a game or put some quarters in it. Or open the coin door and trigger the coin switch arms to make it think you put some coins in. Does the display say anything when you press the start button? Like "insert coins"? If the attract lights are on I am thinking it is a factory reset and you need to go into the adjustments or just make the machine think you just put a bunch of quarters in it.

Since you have the coin door open, see if the key is hanging on the inside of the door for the backglass. Take off the back glass and check to see if there is battery acid damage. If the batteries are dead there is a good chance that they have leaked.

Right on! This is an odd sized DMD Data East used in a few game of theirs.

If its not working now, I would stay away from this machine. Unelss you can locate one before you buy this machine and replace.

If you do decide to buy it, another thing to look for is to make sure the Museum door opens and closes. This motor is not cheap to replace, but you can buy new from Mad Amusements.

Also check the automatic ball launcher. Most dont work all the time and weakly kick the ball out. You can update the launcher with Stern parts if I remember correctly. I did this to my bro in laws but he bought the parts, so I don't remember where he got them. Space is tight for the updated parts but the parts will fit and the launcher always worked after that.

Wow guys good info, thanks.
Mes I will definatly check the battery, the keys were in there. It was on quarter play when i unpluged it but it seemed like it just needed to be reset.
Toolguy The door does work and ball launcher work also, that is good.
The DMD says nothing? Is there a fuse back there? Hoping to get lucky?

I personally don't know if there is a fuse for it or a ribbon cable like on my Bally's. It's def worth checking out though before you write it off.

I never did any work in the backbox on my bro in laws, he since sold the game to a friend and it still continues to work just fine for his friend.
