Bars in the Game Room

Having a bar in your arcade by no means makes you a boozehound, its more or less a place to congregate when having convos with buddies between playing games. Its just a bit of addition to ambiance feeling in the room. (in my opinion)

I don't think anyone is suggesting that you're a wet head if you have a bar in your arcade but if you don't drink I can see why you would not have one. Now if the question was do you have a snack bar in your arcade I would have answered I have on planned yes.

LOL OK fixed :)

Is that what they call them now? Fritz spends most of his shifts under the tables at his local 'snake' bar.

I dont drink either (Im allergic to alcohol...break out in hancuffs EVERYTIME) But have been planning on at least a snack bar with minifirdge... Just think of how many more machines I can fit in the space it would take to put a four person bar....

I am totally down with having a bar in my arcade, as soon as I buy a house. I just don't want to be stuck tending bar when I should be playing games!

I am probably looking into refinishing the basement soon which will have both a bar and arcade section. I'll probably have at least a two keg dispenser included. I haven't decided for the bottle cooler yet. My goal is to have a basement that is so nice that I have no desire to go anywhere else. Of course owning a bar makes it much easier for me to find bar items.

Exactly what I was thinking. By putting in a bar, you're sacrificing space that could be used for more games. I'd rather use the space to have more games to play. If guests need a drink they can get one from the kitchen.

So what's the average amount of games you can have with a bar in the same room? I'd need to have at least room for 16 games before considering adding a bar. I could make room to add a pole though, just in case any females felt like dancing. :D

My pirate bar is outside of my game room, but I have my Sea Wolf and Warlords cocktail there. Here are some pics:

My previous barcade of course had a bar in it. The previous owner had put in a counter against a wall with a sink. I transmogrified it to a nice 8'x8' bar area.

Before and after pics attached.

My new barcade (new home) is still in progress. I had a really tough time deciding whether to go ahead and create a bar in the new arcade, or go without. I could probably put 10 games in the space that would have to be left clear for the access and the bar itself! But, it's not just for me, it's for the community as well, so I compromised and "stole" 9'x7' of the family room and pushed the back wall farther into the utility room, and removed a half-bathroom under the stairs instead :)

The last picture is the latest pic I have of the bar as it's going in. There's a whole 'nuther thread dedicated to that..

Let's see some more bar photos in your game room! I'm looking for ideas for the house.

This is an updated picture from what I posted a few years ago. The LCD is hooked up to a media jukebox that you can queue up and play over 2000 different 80's videos. The island layout acts like a focal point for people to hang out with all the games wrapped around the walls.

Really classy.

My basement came with a bar already installed. I kind of wish it wasn't there, I would have room for a lot more games if it wasn't, but it has had way too much work put into it to just rip it out.

Really beautiful.

Though that carpet is far too nice for my friends.

I keep going back and forth on this one...

I'm gonna have a small kitchenette area and half bathroom for party convenience, but I keep going back and forth as to whether or not I should do a bar.

Also has anyone done a custom bar where you have games built in (like a "dedicated" row of coctails) ? That's actually something that gets me back to thinking a bar would be nice... 3 or 4 seats each with their own game or Game console that that can play under glass.

I was really wanting to do the games built into the bar thing (they have that at a lot of casinos), but for some reason my wife is really against the idea.

I don't really have a game room at the moment. It's currently my garage although I'm trying to get it setup properly. I'll be purchasing a house within the next year and I'm shopping for a house with game room in mind. This is my bar I'm building.
