Baltimore, MD Arcade Auction! Halloween day!

I had one of my men there all day....in the beginning prices were incredibly high---$500 and more for ms pac...a broken galaga over $300, big buck hunter $3000, ugly class of 81 cabaret $900, etc---all plus 10% premium...One clown tried to make his own Class of 81, but got the artwork mixed up...but he still sold it for over $1000...but by the end of the night---8pm, stuff was dirt cheap---as usual...and my man said many of the men that brought stuiff were crying the blues...one guy brought back every Stern pin he took---furious because people wanted them for $2000 each---he was ranting he would just "sell them on ebay" or at Xmas!!!
We were bidding on a Whirlwind and stopped at $1000...it "sold for $1050", but the man who brought it was bidding it up...he found my guy and we ended up buying it out of the auction for $850 and no commission....
my guy said alot of guys were loading up their stuff to take back....but quite a few games did sell for real! But HALLOWEEN??? Not a good idea----as the home buyers were outta there by 2pm. The neon guy in the pictures was out early...so his sales must have been poor at best...CLUNK! Todd at TNT Amusements

And that's why I will never go to one of these "auctions" - that is bullshit, and illegal in New York. You shouldn't be able to shill bid your own stuff. Start it at an amount you are comfortable with, and let the bidders dictate price. Otherwise, don't sell at an auction.

I would have loved to go but I decided to "save" myself and stay home. I didnt have the money to spend on anything and sure dont have room for anything at the moment.
My brother said he might go and take a look but havent talked to him to see if he went. Doesnt sound like there were too many good deals to be had.

I stopped by for 2 hours but didn't see anything that was worth waiting around for. I played a few games, got one non-runner working enough to play...

The only tw3o games I was interested in were Elevator Action and a Gyruss but the Gyruss was a little beat and EA was wrapped in shrink wrap. I only saw it after it was sold. I didn't see one Tempest which disappointed me. There were lots of Multicdes, some with LED screens, that were beat. Lots of newer games with burnt monitors. all in all I wasn't impressed. It looked like a place where people had high dollar junk they wanted top $$ for or where people were letting junk go.

On a different note a friend of mine scored a Burgertime Cocktail table yesterday at a yard sale for $40.00! He'll be a member here in no time with questions on it...

To reiterate what has already been said: having an auction on Halloween is a sure way to make sure no one sticks around late. AGS screwed the pooch with the scheduling of this auction.

Ditto here...plans actually fell into place and I could have went, but decided to skip.

who is collector that posts auction results on his site? I remember he was there last year.

That is Mark at Basement Arcade, I didn't see him there for the first time in 6 years..... The original date was the 29th, I think they didn't have a choice on the followup date. I am just glad that we HAVE and auction people..... Yes they are not always what you would hope but it is SOMETHING. Plus you get to network with other collectors you only see once a year and swap stories. I was going to go for one of the deer hunters but picked up a Pioneer Laser Juke instead. Good Choice, Wife and kids are stoked.

Was feeling slightly bad yesterday afternoon for not going, but this thread has made me feel a lot better about it. Sorry to all those that had to be there and provide reports of how mediocre it was.

it was my first auction and I went just to look around. Nothing spectacular. Kinda curious to see what the Dig Dug went for and the Space Shuttle pin that wasn't working. It was fun nonetheless to see everything.

I had fun... it was nice talking to a few of you guys there. I picked up some cool stuff. I got two nice SF Rush seats (one of my Rush seats is cracked at the bottom), the Nintendo Power racks (should look cool in my video game console room), and a dart board for a friend of mine (if I ever get it out to him). All that stuff was really cheap.

Arcade game wise, I bought the Police 911 2 ($150) and Star Castle ($130). The Police 911 2 is HUGE, and I could barely fit it in my garage (the door won't open because of it now), but I REALLY like the game, so for that price, especially working, I couldn't pass it up. The Star Castle cab is kinda beat (especially the bottom edges, although the art isn't too bad), but it actually works (at least mostly), so I decided to go for it. I was planning on only going to $100, but after waiting for it, I was kinda itching to get it, especially since I had only gotten one other game.

Overall, there were some pretty good deals, and the "flippers" will probably do pretty well on a lot of it, but I didn't really see much that I had to have. I was really tempted w/ the Hydro Thunder cabs (went for ~$500 each), but since I've already got 2 SF Rush cabs and too many other games, I don't think I could fit 2 Hydro Thunders. Plus, I really didn't feel like moving them (my garage is too full to fit them right now, so I'd have had to move a bunch of stuff last night at ~midnight).

I'm glad you got those Nintendo Power Racks, I really wanted to get them but couldn't stay for another 5 hours to bid. Great pickup on that Police 911-2, guy I work with bought one last year at the auction for $900 and it's STILL in his garage.... You should have bought the Hydro Thunders ;)

Heh, no surprise there... unfortunately, this definitely can't stay in my garage, because I've got too many other games in there now that this game only had a spot right at the front, and the door won't go up with it there :p .

Any of you guys that went sat-sun happen to ask AGS why this event will not be coming back to PA or Maryland next year?

Yeah... Mark, myself, and a few other NJ collectors have been making the run to this auction all together since 2000, but this year things fell apart for us, mainly because of it being on the 31th. :(

I came home empty handed. I left around 1:30 once I decided that they weren't making it out of the Buy it Now room until at least 4. A little disappointed they only went with 1 auctioneer, but oh well, what can you do?

Anyone know what the big X-Men and the hellish Track and Field went for?
