Hi --

Does anyone have the scoop on if Auction Game Sales is having their annual auction in Baltimore this year? Their web site as well as the web site of the Maryland State Fairgrounds seems to indicate they are not coming for their usual fall auction this year. Maybe they didn't make enough last year to make it worth their while? This is one annual event I will really miss if this is true. I wonder if this is a one year hiatus or a more permanent thing...

If the Fairgrounds was booked maybe they could consider the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, VA -- this would be a good facility to hold an auction, possibly...Just an idea....

The past 2 years I think there was an auction by a different company up in York PA the same weekend. I believe that contributed to low attendance and selection last year. I believe there is no longer going to be the auctions in Baltimore.

Not sure ability the York auction.

They always seem late to announce this one, and every year people say that last year wasn't good and they probably won't do it this year. But so far, they keep coming back... so until we get into October without a date, or get confirmation that they're not doing it, I'm gonna assume it's still coming.

Its not an auction, its the pinball show, but yeah it lowered attendance for the auction. I personally take the pinball show over the auction, its just less stressful trying to make sure I don't over spend (so easy to do...)

With that said, the auction is always announced really late, and the best thing to do is call Auction Game Sales, and they will fly you straight on the phone.

^This. For whatever reason the Baltimore auction is *ALWAYS* announced late. I've called them in years past, and they always answered.

After the small crowd i saw last year I highly doubt they'll return. It's a waste of time and gas anyway. All you will see is Jamma games, over priced pins,Multicades that look like they were put together minutes before auction, and a handful of classics. You'll see allot of shill bidding also. For the past four years I went to both of the auctions they held each year and after all that have only ever came home with one game. I didn't even want it and bought because it was cheap.

FYI... I just heard from them that they're not planning a Baltimore auction this year. Not a big loss I guess, but it's always a fun place to hang out with other collectors, and occasionally pick up a game or two.

Baltimore Auction

I spoke with Bill and they are definitely trying to pull something off in Baltimore. The Usual date the Fair Grounds had is booked and the week they offered him is the same week Winston Salem is scheduled, they tried to swich the Winston Salem date but they are all booked down there. Currently Bill is looking for another Buiding big enough to host the sale. He will definitely have an answer before the kingsport Tn auction in September on yea or nay. The other possibility is they might consider a late Nov early Dec Baltimore Auction. This is from Bill himself.

Ah... cool, so it's still a possibility. A friend forwarded me an email from Mark saying it wasn't happening.

Baltimore auction is officially dead forever

Bill said he doesnt think he will ever run another Baltimore auction because it wasn't successful due to all the buy backs and amount of junk that showed up vs the large cost to rent the facility and run the event.

Thanks Jamie. I am sorry to hear that. I see they still have the multiple auctions in Winston-Salem and Kingsport. Are these auctions significantly different than the ones in Baltimore? Since they have so many of them I gotta figure the rent must be cheaper and the sales must be better. What makes these areas such a hotbed of good trading/sales? I figure with so many auctions in the same areas that the demand would level off and even diminish after awhile.

I see that -- they updated the page with the message "Due to a scheduling conflict there will be no sale in Baltimore, MD this year."

At least they didn't say "ever". So the door is open for them to return next year...

Auction Game Sales has posted their October auction and it is not in Baltimore (it is in Texas). So, if they stick to their one auction a month schedule, it looks like they are indeed NOT coming back to Baltimore in 2013.

Was this the one that used to be at Timonium Fairgrounds? That is supposedly where the prior owner of my Robotron got it.
