Hey all!

This is my first post:)

I'm restoring a Bally Star Trek, but I have the problem that when I'm
playing a game, the score keeps counting up...no matter if the ball is still
or removed.

I've checked the leafs, but can't find any that seem to stay connected.

Any advice??

Thanks!!

Nicholas

this may help you out

do you have a manual .look at what points are adding up then check the manual to see what switch are what points, then it easyer to find a possible messed up switchs.did you check the pop up bumper leafs.if its adding points there is a leaf broke or touching i would say.it can be any roll over ,drop target, pop up.

I would start by checking the switch test in the self tests.

The most likely cause is a stuck switch though I wouldn't expect the points to keep racking up even after a ball has drained if it were a stuck switch. Does this happen?

Even though it appears that none of the physical switches are stuck closed you could still have a board or playfield wiring problem causing the MPU to read a switch as closed all the time. I would thoroughly check the switch matrix as a first step.

EDIT: Disconnecting the playfield switch connectors from the MPU would be a good way to isolate the problem to the playfield or MPU. If you have the same problem with the playfield disconnected you know it's an MPU problem. If the problem goes away you know it's a playfield wiring problem. Chances are good that it's a switch that's stuck but it's pretty simple to go through the whole switch matrix if need be.

In any event... if you have a stuck switch the switch test will tell you.

Thanks for the replies!!

However, my test switch doesn't seem to work. lol

But if I remove the J2 connector from the MPU, the problem is gone. So, I take
it that the problem is on the playfield:)

Thanks!!

By the way, the score is rising with 100 points. How do I find out what gives a 100
points on the playfield? There's nothing in the manual...

Thanks!

I would try to get the test switch working. Otherwise you could use a meter on the diode test setting to test the switch matrix at the MPU connector to determine which switch is stuck on. Getting the test switch working will likely be easier than that. You could even manually jump the test switch right at the MPU.

Ok, I got the test switch working. Loose connection in the socket at the MPU.

Test #5 shows 29 blinking in the 4 displays, and 0 in the credit display.

Here's a picture of the switch under the PF:

When I disconnect one leg of the cap, the 29 goes out. When I connect again, it
flashes again...so what should I do here? I've tried playing with the leg disconnected,
but then the ball won't kick out to the shooter lane...so the cap probably has to be there?

Thanks!!

The cap on that target should not have any effect on kicking a ball out. If it is ,then you may still have some connecter issues at the board. The game should play fine with the cap disconnected with the exception that if that target is hit hard/fast it may not register the hit. You probably did this but, game off, disconnect the cap, put the play field back down, ball in drain hole, game on, start game, what happens?
