Bally Space Invaders Playfield Restore or Replacement

Everyone,

To the dismay of my wife, I recently caught the pinball bug and now my classice arcade games have new friends.

Just won the Ebay auction for a Bally Space Invaders Pin that looks like it has a yellowed playfield and side art. Have not picked it up yet, but from the photos it looks like it was covered in some kind of clear coat that yellowed over age.

1) Any idea how to get the coating off the playfield. I assume its and older Polyurethane and will probably require me to sand it off and hope for the best.

2) Anyone have, or make new Playfield graphics/overlay for the Space Invaders Pin?

Thanks
Robert

Does the game play well? If so, clean it up with a rag, replace the rubbers, wax it up, and have fun!

Here is the thing you need to keep in mind when you get bit by the bug: not all pins need to be minty fresh. If it doesn't hold a special place in your heart, or you aren't just getting it to restore and resell, then just get it working perfectly and as nice as you can get without tearing it to pieces.

If the playfield had been cleaned/waxed with Wildcat #125 then that explains why the playfield has yellowed.

The yellowing is permanent.

Since it's not a mylar-type overlay, you aren't going to get the yellow off without destroying the artwork, so make sure you've got a plan for that before you start sanding.

There are VERY few pinball playfield overlays that I see on the market. It looks like Classic Arcade Grafix (now apparently out of business) made one, but good luck finding one of those at this point.

Congrats on the machine!
