I'm working on a Bally Shadow,

The machine is resetting.
- When it starts up, it will show testing and then restart and fire up normal.

- I hit the start button and the ball comes up ready to launch, I hit the gun trigger and it shuts back down.
I thought maybe the ball launch solenoid was to blame so I disconnected it but problem continued

- Sometimes the reset will happen at other random times like when I'm putting the playfield back down (not everytime though) and when the balls are scattered and the machine starts firing off coils.

- I tried to find any shorts on the lines and moved everything about to see if the problem would happen but nothing.

- The gun trigger itself tests fine in the switch test mode.
- Test Point 20 reads 2-3 volts, all other test points read fine
I could have sworn that led 5 was lit but I will need to verify. the machines is 45 minutes away from my house.

- It seems that 20 volts only pertains to the flasher lamps, maybe its related to the resetting and a flasher at game start is causing the board to reset??? I haven't yet tried isolating this.

- when I first started on the machine, it had a blown F112 fuse which was a 5A and should be a 7A. I replaced it and all fuses are now good.

- Also I was unable to perform a solenoid test on this game. I put it in solenoid test and it cycles through like its activating all the solenoids but no solenoids are actually firing.

From what I find online about the reset issue is that its a common problem fixed by replacement of the power bridges and caps on the power driver board (2 bridges and 4 caps in the area around led 5)

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this problem.

Thanks

Don't just start replacing parts until you know what the problem is. It is too easy to damage through and across board continuity on these aging boards. If you do get to the point where it is a bridge rectifier, BR2 is your 5 volt one.

Go through the normal things to check on pinwiki first, lots of things can cause resets -

Thanks for that link. I will read through that.
Believe me, the last thing I wanna do is tart shotgunning part replacements
