Does anyone know what kind of copy protection SAC-1 Rom cards have, and if there's a way around it? I've got to believe they built in something to keep people from just reprogramming the EPROMs, but I haven't been able to find anything online about it.

I'm hopefully getting a Sente system soon and it would be cool if I could reprogram some of the common games cards to be some of the extremely rare ones that ROM dumps are available for.

Sente

Ihave had several of the cards and they all look alittle different from game to game. I think it would be more that replacing ROMs to change the games.

I've got the schematic for Stompin's ROM card in front of me and it looks like it uses at least one PAL16R8 chip, I'm willing to bet that the protection is in that. I'll have to check the MAME ROMs when I get home and see if there's anything that looks like PAL code, if so it might be possible to burn copies, the rest of the chips I'll have to look up to see what they are.

This system screams for some kind of multi-card, although differing control panels would be an issue as the games use quite a variety. Making a Stompin' machine for instance would be a hell of a project, it has a 3X3 lighted floor grid for the controls.

I had a Night Stocker and a board set with card from a Street Football. Just to see I swapped the "security" chips and the games still worked to my recollection. Now if the football would play I could not tell you as the only CP I had was for the Night Stocker. It booted and ran attract. In my case the cards were the same but I do recall the numbers on the stickers of the PROMS were different.

I have a spare Sente Night Stalker CPU and ROM board for sale if you want to do some testing, experimenting, etc. I agree, a multi-game seems like a no brainer for Sente.
