ok so ive made some progress IMO i hooked a seperate power supply to MPU board it flashed good, hooked back up to the pinball machine, now the machine boots up and plays its little tune, it does that consistently, heres where it goes in a hand basket though, sometimes it just keeps repeating this process over and over and over again, sometimes it will repeat a couple of times then all the soleniods go crazy, rapidly firing, then sometimes it will boot up and let you actually add a credit and start a game but then half way thru the first ball the game resets itself, any ideas?

i have re-soldered all the points on the transformer and voltage rectifier board, performed the -18 suggested upgrades from pinrepair.com i also replaced the diodes with 1n4007 diodes, i have the three rectifiers on order.

Might be time to consider getting an Altek board to replace your MPU...I did that in my Seawitch - made trouble shooting much easier after that! Expensive but if you like the game, it may be worth it.

i just bought the machine friday Jan 29th so im not really wanting to pump tons of money into it just yet if i dont have to. i have been considering those options though

WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! i just played my first game, i took the rom and ram chips out of the MPU board, and cleaned all the pins on them, and reseated them. this allowed me to boot the game and play YES i knew i needed to replace the sockets, but now i know my MPU board is salvageable. thanks and i will keep an update as im sure there will be some other things that are wrong with this machine. if i were to decide to buy new ram and rom chips that come pre programmed where is a reputable place to purchase these?

I sell a daughter board that will connect to J5 and replace the EPROMs as well as an NVRAM adapter to replace the 5101 and eliminate the need for batteries. Send me a PM if you're interested.

hey lindsey havent heard back from you,

anywho i have the machine up and running i changed all the old bulbs from 44 to the 47's got all the light issues squared away, had to resolder the entire light driver board to get everything fixed properly.

was playing today, i think i have a switch sticking though sometimes the ball will be in the hole below the flippers, but the machine will still sit there and sometimes add points to the score and play the sounds, then at random it will decide the turn is over and move to the next ball. ill deal with that later i suppose i think its something to do with the drop targets though, i noticed a few of them not scoring properly.

i just got my new rubber kit so the playfield will get stripped down, cleaned, and waxed then new rubbers and new ball this weekend any pointers to products that may be available locally for cleaning the PF? i know the standard millwax and novus 2 i cannot find those locally

Make sure the contacts on the outhole switch are clean. That could be the cause of the game not knowing the ball is there.

If the MPU board still has the battery on it, remove it. When I got my game, there was some slight acid damage.

I bought one of the Rottendog replacement power supply boards, and have been very happy with that. Also replaced the caps on the regulator/solenoid driver board.

yea, i have some issues i need to clean and check alignment of that switch, also i need to replace my bridge rectifier to TP1 because its only sending out 3 volts instead of the 5 volts thats supposed to be there.

one of the scoring switches is sticking because the game will continue to score points at random. but no pop bumpers or anything are kicking around when this is happening. i just havent had the time or will power to dig into it yet, due to the fact that i sadly have to have the machine in the garage where there is enough light to work on the thing until i get it all fixed up where it can come into my heated basement, the garage is about 36 degrees today

if you want your game to work properly, your gonna have to fix the issues you have and that means your gonna have to spend a little time and money. First, get the power corrected. If you have read the posts at pinrepair, you know what is wrong, now it's time to get a little dirty and fix the issues. If you aren't comfortable working on boards, the ultimate replacement is a great start and most likely you are going to have to repair the connections going to and from the power supply to the solenoid/regulator board since this is a high failure item in old bally games. Once you get your power issues working, I'd consider replacing those terrible old IC sockets on the MPU board so you can rely on it working properly. If you have a battery onboard, it needs to be remounted off board to eliminate acid issues down the road. When you have this done, you should be able to read thru the diagnostic's used in the game to address any futher issues with the game. Post new problems if you need more help.

yes these are things i understand, it will not just magically work, i have been working on it i know i have to change the bridge rectifier as i stated previously, just havent had the time to do it, i work 40+ hours a week, this is just a new hobby for me. i just got some Novus 2 this evening so tomorrow the playfield will be stripped cleaned and waxed then reassembled. im not affraid of making the repairs myself, i repair electronics that have alot smaller components than these boards contain, it should be a simple fix when i get the time to properly repair it, right now it just affects the lights that flash when you put the machine in test mode, they are dim due to 3 volts instead of 5. also, i have read both the pinrepair for the EM and the SS machines, i have one of each that im working on. one of the first repairs i did was move the battery off the board and repair some acid corrosion

question for the playfield, over the colored inserts that lights shine thru, someone has put a thick protective film in the high wear areas, some of these are lifting around the edges, is there a trick to safely removing these? and is it a requirement to use these?

That is mylar. It is not required that you use it. But it a good idea in high wear areas like in front of slings, around pops, around magnets or where the ball drops onto the playfield.
Freeze spray is supposedly a good way to remove it. Do a search for "Mylar removal" and you will get a bunch of info.

alright, thanks, i think all of it needs to be removed and then some new put down... i can tell it has served its purpose, but right now its causing some issues with the ball doing random things when it makes contact with the mylar

so i started the tear down and cleaning of the playfield, i dont really know how i didnt notice just how bad a shape the playfield is in this is gonna take a lot of work but i want to do it right, i will need someone to make some decals for the playfield inserts or learn how it is done. i know there isnt a kit out there for this as i have already searched, i will keep people updated
